We were honored to attend and sponsor the 12th annual State of Osceola County Government event. Our Osceola County Board of County Commissioners provided attendees with an update on the State of the County. Commissioner Cheryl Grieb, under the theme “Passport to Sustainability,” shared details of current and planned initiatives designed to set Osceola up for success for generations to come. The event showcased local sustainability efforts, including beekeeping and solar energy projects, while emphasizing the strategic plan's four pillars: community development, transportation and infrastructure, efficient government, and a diversified economy. Attendees received honey from a local veteran-owned farm, highlighting traditional and sustainable practices. #MyKissimmee

We believe in communities that restore ecosystems and restore dignity to our human experience. For decades, members and stewards of our network have been refining the skills and frameworks required to build communities that cohere around these values. We can see with our plain eyes the positive impact that ecovillages have -- socially, economically, ecologically, even globally. This document is the Ecovillage Development Programme, a plan for leading governments and NGOs through an integrated, community-led approach to transition their communities to #resilience and restore their environments. Largely thanks to Kosha Joubert and her work with the Pan-African Ecovillage Development (the first EDP), GEN offers a transformative model for building #regenerative communities. Already 22 governments on the African continent have expressed interest, with 4 signing up to transition 16,000+ existing villages into ecovillages. We are blessed to have key advocates in our network such as Anna Kovasna, Taisa Mattos, and Elisangela Rassul. Read more about the EDPs here https://lnkd.in/esFDn2PF

Want to know how we are advancing sustainable development? Tapestry Development Group has successfully installed solar panels on our Highland Terrace II property in Columbus, leveraging incentives from the 2021 federal Inflation Reduction Act. This initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable and inclusive community development. By integrating solar energy, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint while enhancing long-term affordability and resilience for our residents. Moving forward, we plan to incorporate solar panels on two upcoming projects this year, reinforcing our dedication to environmental sustainability. We look forward to sharing the updates as they come. We will continue to implement green initiatives across our developments. #SustainableDevelopment #SolarEnergy #AffordableHousing #GreenBuilding #InflationReductionAct #CommunityDevelopment #EnvironmentalSustainability #TapestryDevelopmentGroup #AffordableHousingGA #CommunityDevelopmentGA #HelpingBuildCommunities #GeorgiaHousingInitiative #HousingEqualityGA

This behavioural type program would be of great benefit to the paid leaders in our communities. Leaders from organisations would then learn that community needs ownership of its programs for sustainability to flourish. Bureaucrats must find ways to assist with resources whilst stepping aside. Repair hubs and cafes benefit from funds and dedicated venues and behavioural change seems to follow in less confronting ways. Over the past 12 years, MiA has observed the need of bureaucracy, no matter how well intentioned, to reinvent the wheel when it comes to community repair. This is what could be addressed in behavioural change type sessions for organisations and leaders, in our humble opinion.
Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government is helping community groups learn about the role #HumanBehaviour plays in successful #sustainability projects through a partnership with BehaviourWorks Australia and Councils throughout Victoria. The free workshops are being held in: #Maryborough, #Geelong, #Sale, #Drouin, #Wodonga, #Shepparton, #Horsham, #Ballarat, #SwanHill, #Warnambool, #Melbourne and online throughout the month of May. Groups involved currently include neighbourhood houses, community gardens, Rotary, climate action groups, litter removal groups and community health promotion groups. https://lnkd.in/gutg-BFA I was honoured to join my esteemed colleagues on stage at the recent World Habitat Day celebration held in Queretaro Mexico Oct 7-10 to discuss the how young people can become involvement in achieving universal access to water and sanitation through the development of a Culture of Maintenance. “To achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda—and to ultimately move beyond it—we need a culture of sustainability. Prematurely or chronically broken systems are of diminished social value and, worse, represent an unforgivable waste of scarce public funding. A culture of sustainability requires a stronger focus on maintenance. As we expand WASH infrastructure, we must place greater emphasis on sustainable operations and repairs. Over the lifespan of WASH infrastructure, operations and maintenance can cost almost as much as the initial capital investment. This represents significant opportunities for training, employment, and procurement, particularly for young people. Youth should be demanding that all infrastructure projects incorporate opportunities for them to benefit in this way.” – Karun Koernig, COO Water is Right Foundation, Essen Germany Flowing Towards Equity: Youth Initiatives for Accessible Water and Sanitation in Urban Spaces: - Beyond the 2030 Agenda (Querétaro, Mexico) Moderator: Ezequiel Da Rosa, CEO and Founder of Piipee, Brazil. 🌍 Ensuring Community Benefits in Nature Projects: A Milestone for Scotland! 🌍 We are thrilled to announce that the Scottish government has backed the development of a Community Benefits Certification Mark, a groundbreaking initiative to ensure community participation in nature projects. CreditNature is leading the way by actively piloting this community standard in Dreel Burn, Fife, covering 5,000 hectares of agricultural land. By integrating key local priorities, such as clean rivers and protecting key industries like tourism, the CreditNature Ecosystem Management Rating (EMR) methodology ensures that community benefits remain at the centre of a diverse array of land management and enhancement projects. The certification aims to provide a transparent platform for all nature markets to demonstrate best practices in long-term community involvement, with well-defined benefits. Set to launch in May 2025, this initiative has already secured £240,000 in funding from the Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland (FIRNS), co-backed by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Scottish government. The Nature Finance Certification Alliance (NFCA) will oversee the intellectual property of the certification. NFCA’s extensive network includes investors, conservation organisations, and natural capital developers, all working together to support UK nature finance. The community standard is designed to be applicable across all UK-focused ecosystem services schemes, including emerging biodiversity and nature credit methodologies. By partnering with natural capital investment platform Kana Earth, the aim is to make the standard operational from its launch next year. Other key organisations involved in the initiative, include Trees for Life Nattergal Ltd Highlands Rewilding, and The Future Forest Company, alongside many others. Collectively the aim is to ensure that nature projects not only recover nature, but also bring tangible and lasting benefits to communities and future generations. 🌿🤝 🔗 read the news coverage here: https://lnkd.in/eB7pG_TJ 🔗 find out more about the NFCA initiative here: https://lnkd.in/eVhmG9SY #Community #NatureRecovery #Sustainability #Biodiversity #Scotland #EnvironmentalStewardship #CommunityBenefits
