Businesses in Sweden are in urgent need of skilled recruits. TechSverige, for example, estimates that 18,000 tech specialists annually are required between 2024 and 2028 to fill the skills gap. Continuous skills development at home and recruitment from other countries are essential if business needs are to be met. However, importing overseas talents doesn't mean cherry-picking one individual at a time. Recruits may well be accompanied by a highly qualified wife, husband, or partner whose needs must be considered if the assignment is to be successful, while solo newcomers need to build a network and social life outside of work. Businesses that fail to acknowledge these needs risk costly failures and lengthy delays. We invite businesses in North West Skåne to discuss the issues around talent retention at a workshop on 15 November, "Hur kan företag behålla internationell kompetens?" The workshop is hosted by Helsingborg International Connections, Helsingborgs stad, and Ingka Group. We'll be joined by businesses such as Koenigsegg Automotive AB, Höganäs AB, Capgemini, Contentor - AI Localization, Tillväxt Helsingborg, and Forenom, while the important educational and academic institutions required to support our international community will also attend: #InternationalSchoolofHelsingborg, Internationella Engelska Skolan, Dibber International School, and Campus Helsingborg, Lunds universitet. CEOs, HR Partners, and Onboarding Specialists are warmly welcomed to register here: https://lnkd.in/dRKHMTGT The workshop will be held in Swedish, with some contributions in English. Free entry. We offer breakfast and lunch! This event is for businesses only. A bit late to the party, but I feel the absolute need to give a massive shoutout to the incredible BUILA team and colleagues for making #BUILA2024 a resounding success, and quite possibly, the best BUILA Conference ever! Reflecting on the many insightful discussions and informative sessions, here are my three key takeaways: 1. Employability and career progression are increasingly, intricately linked to student course, country, and institutional choice. This shift highlights the importance of attracting global talent to bridge skills shortages gaps and boost local prosperity. UK higher education institutions, such as my own #UniversityofCumbria, have a pivotal role to play in this transformation by continuing to engage pro-actively in the community and working in partnership with local businesses and employers. 2. With the recent changes in government and the (renewed) endorsement of the Graduate Route, we have a clear window of opportunity to reshape the narrative through a refresh of the Study-UK brand and a refocus on the UK as a high-quality and welcoming global study destination. 3. Embracing new technologies and understanding the importance of AI, diversity, and the needs, motivations, and aspirations of Gen Alpha (as well as Gen Z) is imperative. By creatively harnessing the power of tools like Generative AI, we can improve and refine our processes to create meaningful and engaging student experiences without replacing human jobs. Special thanks to the informative and engaging speakers at the 'Market Diversity' session that I chaired, who took us on a trip through Europe, hopping from Turkey across to Morocco and Egypt in North Africa and back through the '-Stans' in Central Asia; you were amazing! - Nilgün Felchner, British Council - Dr.Nabil Hajii Honorary Lecturer, Imperial College London - Nour-eddine Aboudihaj, Chairman of the Moroccan British Competencies Network. Tosin Adebisi, LSE A big hand to the whole BUILA team: Catriona McCarthy, Andrew Bird, Jasmine Bual, Karen Blackney, Sarah Caine, Edward Chan, Philippa Collins Robson, Nancy Donna Cooke, Stuart Easter, Francis G., Brian Greenwood, Kim Hadley, George Hunt, Samuel Jackson-Royle, Shonagh Maak, Jennifer Plant, Ula Tang-Plowman (MCIM)

Approximately 19% of students in the Netherlands opt for technology-related studies. This statistic highlights one reason behind the persistent shortage of tech professionals and underscores the importance of maintaining the Netherlands as an attractive destination for international tech talent. As Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi, the CEO of TNO has pointed out, a significant number of new hires at TNO are not Dutch nationals, emphasizing the need for a diverse workforce. We need to remember and appreciate the vital role of international tech talent in driving innovation within companies that are addressing transition challenges. #techtalent #expats

🌍 What Does Frugal Innovation Mean? 🌍 Frugal innovation is all about meeting needs in the simplest and most resource-efficient way possible. It’s about achieving more with less—focusing on sustainability and reducing environmental impact. According to Wikipedia, frugal innovation promotes smart, streamlined solutions that use minimal resources while maximizing value. 🚀 The Citeuropass Programme exemplifies this approach, empowering European students from universities like Grenoble (UGA, France), Banska Bystrica (UMB, Slovakia), Sofia (NBU, Bulgaria), Iasi (Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Romania), and Bratislava (EU, Slovakia). Through collaboration with the Nemeton biolab and Kenwright Consulting, these students are creating impactful, eco-conscious solutions. Their mission? To rethink existing solutions and reduce their carbon footprint in a frugal way. Innovation is measured by how much the new solution improves environmental impact—less footprint, more sustainability! 🌱 🔧 5 projects have already been launched, with 3 focused on air and 2 on water. These initiatives are a huge step forward for both the environment and society. 📅 Want to learn more? Visit the Citeuropass exhibition, open until September 30th at the MACI (Saint Martin d'Hères campus, Grenoble, France), and explore these groundbreaking projects!
