Our Chief Climate Scientist, Dr. Vijay Swarup, was on hand in Lima for APEC Perú 2024 to talk about the energy transition, affordable energy, and promoting collaboration to meet climate goals. The forum drew leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to promote increased prosperity for the people of the area. Key to this growth is the supply of reliable and affordable energy with fewer emissions, a topic that Vijay knows well: “More energy, lower emissions - that’s what has to happen.” In order to facilitate a successful energy transition, the world and the region that makes up APEC will need policies and technology acceleration that go hand in hand.
To promote a collaboration in the energy transition with affordable energy requires a multifaceted approach. 1. Government and private sectors should collaborate on renewable energy projects by sharing resources, expertise, and risks involved. 2. Let both parties introduce incentive packages like grants, tax breaks, and let them invest heavily in technology to curb emissions. It's a very sticky situation that we find ourselves - more energy with lower emissions equates to higher efficiency, but doesn't target an overall reduction in emissions (total emissions). The only transition here is from algae to the next greenwashing campaign....
Highly recommended
