“Soul of the City ” It represents the vibrant essence of a community—its traditions, people, architecture, and cultural heritage. The title suggests that the city is more than its physical structures; it is alive with the stories, emotions, and connections of its inhabitants. In this artwork, the title highlights the intricate blend of architectural elements, symbolic figures, and fluid landscapes, all of which converge to tell the narrative of a thriving, interconnected society. It reflects the identity, harmony, and resilience of a place shaped by its people and their collective memory. Soul of the city Acrylic on canvas 100x150cm 2024

From #Gothic to #Glazing: The Evolution of #Architecture Through the #Renaissance: Architecture has always reflected the intellectual, cultural, and technological shifts of its time. The transition from Gothic to Glazing architecture is one such journey, marked by significant philosophical and artistic shifts, particularly during the Renaissance era. The Gothic period (12th-16th century) emphasized verticality and light, with soaring spires, ribbed vaults, and stained glass windows that filled churches with divine illumination. Its architecture was driven by religious symbolism, with pointed arches and flying buttresses allowing for expansive interiors. The Renaissance (14th-17th century), however, heralded a shift toward humanism, balance, and proportion. As architects like #FilippoBrunelleschi and #LeonBattistaAlberti embraced classical Roman ideals, they reintroduced symmetry, geometry, and the use of columns and domes. The human form and its proportion became the guiding principles in design, leading to more harmonious spaces that reflected the beauty of the natural world. With this newfound focus on reason and the individual, architecture evolved further into the “Glazing” era, where transparency and lightness became central. Innovations in materials, particularly glass, transformed buildings into light-filled, open structures, reflecting society’s increasing embrace of rationality, science, and modernity. This shift from the enclosed, divine-focused Gothic style to the open, rational spaces of the Renaissance marked a pivotal moment in architectural history, influencing design for centuries to come. #ArchitecturalHistory #HistoryOfArt #DesignInfluence #LightAndArchitectural #SymmetryAndGeometry

This conceptual image was created as part of my studies on 18th-century medieval cathedrals in England, exploring a modern interruption within the framework of historic sacred architecture. The vertical tower on the left reimagines the traditional cathedral spire, its segmented, geometric tiers glowing from within as if the structure holds an illuminated spirit. Stripped of ornamentation, it becomes a minimalist yet monumental gesture, paying homage to the vertical grandeur of the past while introducing a contemporary architectural language. Extending horizontally, a series of interconnected domes reinterpret the classic vaulted forms of cathedral naves. Their smooth, glowing surfaces seem to embody light itself, reshaping the ethereal quality of sacred space into something both modern and timeless. Below, a rhythmic progression of narrow vertical panels evokes colonnades or clerestory windows, their illuminated forms creating a skeletal transparency that contrasts with the dense stonework of traditional cathedrals. This interplay of light and shadow redefines the way sacred space is perceived, replacing solidity with a luminous fragility. At the base, the vertical greenery root the design in nature, introducing an organic element that grounds the otherwise ethereal composition. Hovering above, a textured, reddish celestial object interrupts the scene—a modern abstraction of the divine that challenges convention while hinting at spirituality’s evolving visual language. This concept serves as a study of how modern design can coexist with the legacy of 18th-century cathedrals, distilling their history and essence into a vision of light, form, and contemporary materiality. ~MLL

Modern Utopia is an evocative artwork that centers on the iconic Villa Savoye, a seminal piece of architecture by the Swiss-born visionary Le Corbusier. Designed with the intention of enhancing the happiness of its residents, Villa Savoye embodies Le Corbusier’s utopian vision of living spaces that harmonize with modern life. The artwork highlights this architectural masterpiece through a ‘spotlight’ effect, casting the building in a cinematic light that heightens its presence and dramatizes its form. This visual technique creates a dialogue between the idealized dream of social engineering and the tangible reality of the structure itself. The spotlight serves as a metaphor, illuminating the tension between Le Corbusier’s lofty aspirations for a better society and the grounded experience of those who inhabit the space. In Modern Utopia, the Villa Savoye is not just a building but a symbol of the intersection between visionary design and the complexities of real life. The artwork, thus, becomes a reflection on the enduring impact of architecture on human happiness and the pursuit of utopian ideals. #art #artwork #modernart #contemporaryart #artlovers #kunst #lecorbusier #villasavoye #midcenturymodern #modernarchitecture

Natural materials for space architecture, like wood or even "regolith-clay" plaster, were the subject of my white paper for the decadal survey of the space architecture comunity. I am convinced that life in space will require living materials. Not only because we can grow them in space, but also because they meet the mental and emotional needs of our lives, which are undeniably enhanced by the use of wood in interiors. 🌱🌍🚀 Wood creates: - a calming appearance 🧘♂️ - an antiseptic surface 🧼 - a highly durable finish 🛠️ - easy to install and modify 🔧 And there’s so much more to say about wood! Of course, there are many challenges, but I believe these can be overcome, thanks to the people I've discussed this topic with. 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 architectural style captivates with its raw, unapologetic aesthetic, marrying concrete's starkness with bold geometric forms. Its essence lies in its honest expression of function and materiality, making a powerful statement in contemporary architecture. Characterized by its emphasis on functionality, exposed materials, and geometric shapes, modern brutalism challenges traditional notions of beauty and invites viewers to confront the raw essence of structure. Its allure lies in its uncompromising authenticity and timeless appeal. #designconcept #TAKTIKDesignThinkingLab

Timeless Echoes: The Surreal Facade of West Wimbledon In West Wimbledon, where the old meets new, A building stands, with history’s view. From the 1930s, it proudly keeps, A timeless grace, through years it leaps. Circular windows, like eyes that gaze, In dark brick walls, a surreal maze. Hedges frame this architectural tale, A pierced wall with a letter box pale. Against the brick, in shadows deep, This edifice wakes from timeless sleep. Significant, yet surreal its form, A monument through sun and storm. In the quiet streets, where whispers lie, This building stands, as time goes by. A piece of history, a story told, In windows round, and brick so bold. #TimelessArchitecture #SurrealDesign #WestWimbledon #CircularWindows #ArchitecturalHeritage #HistoricBuildings #ModernistDesign #UrbanElegance
