Thrilled to share a major milestone for our new Fairness, Inclusion & Respect (FI&R) group… Last week, we hosted our first coffee afternoon—a relaxed, open space where staff could share their thoughts on what ‘fairness,’ ‘inclusion,’ and ‘respect’ mean to them in a workplace context. The goal was to provide a judgment-free setting where people felt comfortable discussing these important themes, asking questions, and sharing personal stories. We also gathered some incredibly insightful feedback to help us shape the future strategic direction of FI&R initiatives.
The event exceeded all our expectations, with a much higher turnout than anticipated. It was clear that there’s a strong demand for more opportunities like this, where people can engage, connect, and be heard on topics that shape our culture.
Colleagues shared openly about their experiences, perspectives, and ideas on what a fair, inclusive, and respectful workplace looks like. People expressed how valuable it was to have a platform where they felt genuinely heard, with no fear of judgment. It was heartening to see everyone—from new joiners to senior staff—participating actively and supporting one another. This openness allowed us to dive deeper into topics that can often be sensitive but are essential for fostering mutual understanding. The positive feedback and insights we received have reinforced the importance of these discussions, showing that they’re a powerful way to build a stronger, more empathetic culture. This event has set a foundation for ongoing dialogue that we’re excited to continue.
I’m genuinely proud of the FI&R advocates and all staff who showed up with open minds and hearts. Creating a respectful and inclusive environment doesn’t happen overnight, but seeing the enthusiasm and commitment from my colleagues gives me hope for the positive changes ahead. Pictured here with me is my wonderful colleague and fellow advocate, Lizzie Scott. Here’s to many more conversations and actions that bring us closer to a truly inclusive workplace! 👏
