Bhubaneswar has been bagged with the "City with the Best Public Transport System" and is setting new standards for urban mobility. But what made it stand out? The launch of the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) agency in 2018 made the city's public transport into a smooth, sustainable, and citizen-centric system. CRUT's Mo Bus system is more than just a fleet of vehicles. It's about: ⏩ Green mobility - electric buses which cut carbon emissions but ensure that travel across the city is easy and efficient. ⏩ Safety - there's CCTV, emergency panic buttons, and priority seating so that everyone feels secure. ⏩ Convenience - this includes online ticketing, live tracking, and route planning via an exclusive app. With discounted fares for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers, maps in Odia and English, and e-rickshaw services providing door-to-door connectivity. Even free newspapers on buses show Bhubaneswar's commitment to passenger comfort. Bhubaneswar's forward-thinking approach isn't just improving lives locally; it's setting a benchmark for cities across India. How do you see the future of public transport in your city? #bhubaneswar #transport #mobility #sustainability Image credits- Odisha shines

For decades, a shikara ride has been an essential experience for tourists visiting the Jammu and Kashmir valley. These ornately crafted wooden boats ferry passengers across serene waters like the Dal Lake, Nigeen Lake, Manasbal Lake, and the Jhelum River. Over 4,000 shikarawallas depend on these rides for their livelihood. Currently, there are over 3,000 shikaras in Dal Lake alone, charging a government-mandated rate of Rs 800 per hour. In an effort to modernize transportation, Uber launched a pilot project called ‘Uber Shikara.’ The service began with five shikaras operating from Ghat 16 and runs between 10 am and 5 pm, offering one-hour rides for up to four passengers. Uber ensures shikarawallas are paid at government rates, with additional commissions. However, some shikarawallas fear that corporate involvement could undermine their business, citing concerns similar to those faced by local taxi drivers in Kerala. What are your views on this?? #Kashmir #Uber

A slow street is a concept that focuses on redesigning roads to prioritize pedestrians, cyclists, and community activities by limiting vehicular traffic. This approach aims to create safer, more inclusive, and accessible public spaces, encouraging walking, cycling, and social interactions while reducing traffic-related pollution and promoting environmental sustainability. In India, initiatives like Raahgiri Day in cities such as Gurugram and Indore have embraced the slow street concept by creating car-free zones for recreation and community bonding. These efforts have transformed urban spaces into vibrant public areas, promoting healthier lifestyles and proving that reimagining streets can lead to safer and more inclusive cities. #SlowStreets #SafeStreets #StreetsForPeople #WalkableCities #BikeFriendly #UrbanMobility #LivableCities #UrbanBUZZ #HabituX #SHS #XIMUniversity
