In the first four months of this year, Thailand spent up to 22.5 million USD importing Vietnamese durian, a year-on-year surge of 82%. This figure is much higher than that of the third ranked market, China’s Hong Kong, with only 3.6 million USD. #thailand #vietnam #fruit #durian #import #export #trade #internationaltrade #shipping #commoditytrader #dailyinsights #news

PRIVATE PURPLE PRICES IN CHINA 'PLANNING', WHAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR VIETNAM? 🔥 Durian prices in China have dropped sharply in the past month. According to experts, this is a great opportunity for Vietnamese durian. 🌟 According to the General Administration of Customs of China, in April, the import price of durian from Thailand was 5.80 USD/kg, a slight increase compared to the general average of 5.38 USD/kg. In contrast, Vietnamese durian is imported at a price of 4.22 USD/kg. In general, durian prices decreased significantly compared to March, with imported Thai durian at 6.49 USD/kg, Vietnamese durian at 5.23 USD/kg and the average import price in month reached 5.63 USD/kg. 💡Vietnam's market share has increased to 82% in total value in the first 4 months of this year. Despite the heat, Vietnamese durian is "marginally better" than Thailand's due to lower production costs in Vietnam. 🔑 Vietnamese durian exporters have an advantage in price, as they only need to transport durian through the border gate in the North, instead of moving through 2 or 3 border gates like durian from Thailand. My op-ed, published today in The Jakarta Post, delves into the economic and diplomatic risks associated with Indonesia's proposed 200% import tariff on Chinese goods, analyzed from an international political economy perspective. I argue that while the tariff intends to protect local industries and employment, it could inadvertently raise consumer prices, burden household budgets, and provoke retaliatory measures from China. Such consequences threaten Indonesia's trade relationships not only within ASEAN but also on a global scale. To address these challenges, I advocate for a more nuanced strategy that includes targeted tariffs and domestic industry support through innovation. This approach aims to safeguard Indonesia’s economic future and maintain its competitive stance in ASEAN and the broader international market.

cross-border export NDO - Vietnam's import-export results in the first 6 months of the year are very positive with an average growth rate of about 14-16%. Vietnam is also maintaining a trade surplus of about 8-10 billion USD. These telling numbers show that opportunities in the global market continue to be huge for Vietnamese businesses. However, are domestic businesses ready to "push the boat" on the growing wave of e-commerce? https://lnkd.in/gjiwqZHw

The 2024 election victory of Donald Trump marks the resurgence of the “America First” policy, emphasizing domestic production and reducing reliance on imports. Key measures, such as imposing tariffs of up to 60% on goods imported from China, have significantly raised the cost of Chinese products in the U.S. As a result, global investors are actively seeking alternative production bases offering strategic advantages. Thailand has emerged as an attractive choice for international investors due to its robust trade agreements with numerous countries, a skilled workforce, and over 70 industrial estates under the management of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT). These estates are equipped with comprehensive infrastructure, including logistics systems, seaports, and airports. The IEAT further enhances investor confidence by providing consultations, incentives, and a seamless support system that ensures cost-effective operations. Products manufactured in Thailand also enjoy a distinct advantage in accessing the U.S. market, as they are not subject to the high tariffs imposed on Chinese goods. This directly benefits investors seeking to mitigate the impact of Trump's trade policies while maintaining competitiveness in the global market. Moreover, relocating production to Thailand offers access to the dynamic Southeast Asian market, thanks to the country’s strategic location and ongoing industrial development. The Thai government continues to strengthen its competitiveness by supporting foreign investments, making Thailand a well-prepared, cost-effective, and government-backed manufacturing base. If you are searching for a comprehensive and strategic investment destination, the IEAT is ready to be your partner at every step of your journey toward success.
