It's not always easy to find support as an autistic adult. In our experience, autistic people don't always get the opportunity to access activities outside of their routine and there are limited services available that can support their individual needs and wellbeing. That is why we run a Social Autism Space, which provides a safe space to socialise with like-minded people and the chance to develop wellbeing strategies based around the individual. This is entirely free and open to any autistic adults, whether they are diagnosed, self-diagnosed or waiting for diagnosis. Find out more: https://bit.ly/4aavCtJ

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that cannot be cured, as it is not a disease but rather a natural variation in the human brain. Instead of focusing on a cure, interventions and support are directed toward maximizing the individual's ability to function and lead a fulfilling life. Emphasizing acceptance and adaptive strategies helps improve the quality of life and integration into society for those on the autism spectrum. #autismawarenessmonth #AutismAcceptanceMonth #autismsupport

Autism, once considered a rare disease, is now better understood and easier to diagnose and live with. The first Autistic Pride Day was celebrated on June 18th, 2005, by Aspies For Freedom (AFF), a group dedicated to autism awareness. Since autism was first misidentified by psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler in 1911 as a form of schizophrenia, our understanding of autism has greatly improved thanks to the efforts of AFF and other autistic advocates. They’ve transformed the narrative from stigma to pride. Archaic and abusive methods like shock therapy and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) are no longer used. Today, we value autistic perspectives, providing tools like noise-canceling headphones, speech therapy, and quiet rooms in public. Society’s shift towards empathy and understanding has created space for autistic people to thrive. Embrace autism with pride. Happy Autistic Pride Day! #NeurodiversityMatters #AutismAwareness #AcceptanceNotTolerance #InclusionMatters #AutisticCommunity #CelebrateDifferences Autistic Pride Day

There are so many reasons why an autistic person might not be identified or diagnosed until after childhood or well into adulthood. Some examples include: • Changing diagnostic criteria • Stigma and ableism • Cultural, age, and gender bias Our understanding of autism is now broader and deeper than in the past. As we learn more, many autistic adults are recognizing their own autistic traits for what they are. An autism diagnosis can allow an autistic person to better understand their strengths, help them identify needs and ask for accommodations, give them a community to connect to, and provide self-understanding.
