Axiom Space is in the early stages of developing the first module for a space station it hopes will replace the International Space Station, and is actively exploring a potential partnership with India’s space industry to support its mission. Could the company and the country really disrupt the global space market? Vanesa M. Listek reports in our latest PRO article.

What #3dprinting material is best for space? That is a harder question. There are a lot of variables for space. But, one really good option is Antero 840CN03. The CN stands for Carbon Nanotubes. Which if you keep up on your comic books and science news, are stronger than spider silk - or steel. Plus, it is a PEKK family plastic that can stand a lot of temperature ranges, and probably one of the most important features - especially if you know your space history - is electrostatic dissipative. (no more Apollo 1, or 13s).

[GalaxySpaceNewsGH: Astronauts 3D Print 1st Metal Part While On ISS] ESA scientists have successfully demonstrated 3D printing of a metal part in space for the first time. 3D printing in space poses challenges, as many methods rely on gravity to position materials during the printing process. This is because when creating metal structures, molten metal is often used as part of the filament, or printable medium. In space, its behavior can be unpredictable, which can result in poor-quality objects, as the filament might shift or be placed incorrectly due to the lack of gravitational forces. https://lnkd.in/e7KYwAgE #galaxyaerosgh #space #spaceexploration #SpaceNews

Good news. In this historical day, of sept 7th of 2024 I want to share AMAZING NEWS that will change everything! For the project SIRIUS SPACE , the Principal of my School Unit got R$40,000 to invest in the transformation of a classroom to install Laser cutting machine, CNC milling, 3D Resin Printer ( technology only a little more than a decade on the market), wielding and more wide table for 8 students each, 2 tables total in the class. Arguing now for include a newtonian reflector telescope. All this to build _in loco_ our own technology, since satellites, rovers, drones, hoovers, landers, communication ground -base and space-bases. Small in scale, big in realization and when they got in the High School or University became space engineers, software engineers, designers, architects and artists to use their power of vision to bring the future as movies, paintings, musics and technologies.

#digitalimaging #computervision: The story behind our chromatic distortion model. We were working on the high speed 3D industrial scanner application We already had a good target extraction, accurate at a few hundreds of pixel, and we could therefore start looking at errors smaller than a pixel. The leftmost graphic uses the average of red green and blue target extractions as reference, and plots the amplified deviation (50x) of Red Green or Blue w.r. to the average... its a trick from CAD, amplify the behavior to start getting an explanation. What is obvious is the radial spread of targets w.r. to color, we were looking at a problem in polar coordinates. Plotting individual colors w.r. from image center yielded 3 graphs, where I show only 2. Green is in the order of 10e-5 pixels... not significant with the target accuracy we have. It makes sense as Green is the center of the visible spectrum. The remaining 2 curves for Blue and Red were first modeled with 3 parameters, a standard polynomial fit, as any undergrad would do it. Only it was wrong... the curve has only 2 parameters. We needed to understand the physics underneath to model this. And its going to be one of our next patents. We know the model works as it also predicts the distortion of a zooming lens, and was found on a fixed lens camera... So if color accuracy is an issue on your application, I can help We are more accurate than NASA from COTS

“The first test parts are set to be 3D printed immediately as part of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s Materials International Space Station Experiment (MISSE) program. Through this project, material samples will be attached to the exterior of the International Space Station (ISS) to assess their performance and durability in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).” #additivemanufacturing #3dprinting #ISS #spacestation #nasa #space #research #ceramics #aerospace
