🌟 Why Your Team Needs an Intern – And Why I’m the Perfect Fit! 🌟 As I continue my journey in the world of industrial design, I’m excited to share why having an intern on your team can be a game-changer and why I believe I could be the ideal candidate for your next intern position. 🔹 Fresh Perspectives & Innovation: Interns bring new ideas, creativity, and a fresh perspective that can inspire innovation. My background in product design, combined with my current Master’s studies in International Design Strategy (DSI) in Shanghai, positions me to contribute unique insights and out-of-the-box thinking to your projects. 🔹 Up-to-Date with Trends & Technologies: Staying current with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies is second nature to me. From 3D modeling to sustainable design practices, I’m equipped with the latest knowledge and skills that can keep your projects cutting-edge and competitive. 🔹 Cost-Effective Support: Bringing an intern on board is a smart investment. Interns are eager to learn, enthusiastic, and ready to take on tasks that can support and enhance your team’s productivity without the long-term commitment. 🔹 Mutual Growth & Learning: An internship is not just about what I can bring to the table but also about what I can learn from your team. I am eager to grow, learn, and contribute to your projects while bringing a passion for user-centered, innovative design solutions. 👩🎓 Why Choose Me? 🔹 Creative & Technical Skills: With a solid foundation in product design and advanced skills in 3D modeling and user experience design, I am ready to tackle challenges head-on. 🔹 Global Perspective: My studies in France and China have given me a unique, cross-cultural perspective that can add value to international projects. 🔹 Passion & Dedication: I am driven by a passion for design and a commitment to excellence, always eager to push boundaries and deliver outstanding results. 📄 Ready to Connect? If you’re looking for a motivated, creative, and innovative intern to join your team, let’s connect! Check out my CV and my portfolio. I’m excited about the possibility of contributing to your team and making a difference. Let’s create something amazing together! 🌟 #Internship #IndustrialDesign #Innovation #DesignThinking #JobOpportunity #CreativeTalent #Shanghai #China

#5pmTips – Tips for Landing an Internship in Interior Design Internships are invaluable in building your design career, offering hands-on experience, networking, and insights that you just can’t get in a classroom. Here are a few essential tips to help you secure that perfect internship: 1. Start Networking Early: The design industry thrives on connections, so begin reaching out even before you’re actively searching. Follow design firms, join relevant groups, attend industry events, and participate in webinars or workshops. Building relationships over time helps you stand out when it's time to apply. 2. Personalize Your Outreach: When you reach out to design studios or professionals, make it personal. Show genuine interest by mentioning specific projects of theirs that inspired you or align with your interests. Tailoring your outreach message shows you’re not just looking for any internship but are truly interested in their work and studio culture. 3. Polish Your LinkedIn Profile: Treat your LinkedIn profile as an extension of your resume. Make sure it’s up to date, highlights relevant skills, and includes a few portfolio pieces or project snapshots that demonstrate your style and abilities. You can also share design insights or inspiration on your LinkedIn feed to show your passion and engagement with the field. 4. Perfect Your Portfolio: A strong, concise portfolio speaks louder than words. Include your best work, showcasing a variety of styles and techniques, from sketches and renderings to final designs. Be ready to explain your design choices and process—your ability to discuss your work confidently can make a big impression on potential employers. 99. Practice Interviewing Skills: Be prepared to discuss your design process, inspirations, and any projects you’ve worked on. Be enthusiastic and authentic—employers want to see that you’re not only skilled but genuinely passionate about design. 100. Stay Organized and Persistent: Apply to a range of places, keeping track of the studios you’ve contacted and any responses. Don’t be discouraged by rejections; instead, use them as an opportunity to refine your approach or expand your search. Persistence often pays off in the search for the right internship. 👉 Have you started applying for internships yet? #InternshipHunt #DesignInternships #CareerGoals #5pmTips #Networking #DesignFuture #CorkerInteriors

While I’m asking questions… (re #AI, in my last post, and re the bigger questions of life after study, in my always-questioning mind…) I’m very interested to know, if anybody in #interiordesign #recruiting can enlighten me, whether interior design firms in Australia (generally) expect entry level interior designers to undertake internships, and if so, how those internships work? Are they paid or unpaid? Are they advertised anywhere particular? Are #diploma and/or #degree graduates also expected to have interned, before they are offered jobs? There seem to be remarkably few entry level positions advertised for #interiordesigners (compared to higher level designers), so I’m wondering if internships have taken over many of those positions? Thoughts, or tips, anyone?

#TuesdayTip: Dear Students, the design internship you complete in order to graduate doesn't need to be amazing in order to be good...pass it on. While dreams of grandeur have you hoping for a prestigious summer internship (or first design job) that pays a super high rate as a reward for your top-notch portfolio, I'd just like to say this: ☀ Sometimes it's the simple ones – the ones that fly under the radar and aren't all that flashy – that can really teach you the most and set you up with skills that students don't usually come out of college with. ☀ Sometimes its the available ones – our career paths are often shaped or at least influenced by the job market and what comes our way. Each opportunity you take is an opportunity to learn and build your career skills and industry context. ☀ Sometimes its the free ones – if you can swing it with family support, just know that you may be able to find some of the more obscure opportunities if they don't have to have a big budget for your support. Especially if the pickings are slim, consider it – you will still learn a ton. MY TOP 5 TIPS FOR DESIGN INTERNS: 1) No one gets famous for their work as an intern. So just let a little pressure out and do what you need to do to graduate. 2) Your portfolio just shows your employer that you know how to learn. In other words, 'Congrats! Now buckle up and get ready to learn the job – on the job.' 3) Bring your humility and an honest, eager to learn attitude. Your colleagues have a ton they could show you, but understand that THEY decide how much time to spend on you. Make it easy for them to pour in. 4) Consider options that teach you things that you won't learn in school. Like production skills, or how design jobs work in certain industries (like #govcon, for one), etc. 5) Think about mashups with your other passion areas. What makes you you? Like...design + music, or design + textiles, or design + avionics, etc. Then look for an internship in that area. ☀ And employers: Remember that internships are a two-way street. Yes, they may provide you access to help for a lower cost, but that's supposed to be in exchange for the chance to learn from your teams. Plan for it. Best of luck this summer, everyone! ☀ #design #designer #internship #intern

The design industry is a mess! Can we sort this out, please? This was me in 2015 after a three month long unpaid internship. Why are there still graduates finishing universities who are expected to do unpaid work for months before even being considered to be worthy of a junior designer's position? How is that fair? 🤔 In an industry where practical experience and a diploma is valued so higly, shouldn't the higher education institutions provide students with this experience, so that they could hit the ground running the moment they enter the 'real world'? I look back at my career in this week's YouTube video and make a note of how much I got paid at each career milestone. This has instigated some interesting conversations in my DMs and comments since there is a worldwide audience tuning into this content. One topic that does stand out is that of internships and work experience and how that is rewarded throughout designer's career. Not just at the beginning. Designers often feel undervalued and stuck. It's like we have been set up for failure from the beginning. Can we do better? If you're looking to hire a fresh graduate for a junior position, can you give them a chance to start their career without having to work 4 jobs at the same time? I hope you can ✌️ Share your thoughts below 👇👇👇 * Slightly off topic and not the usual positive tone today, but I felt like it was important to share.
