At first relatively long time ago this new product idea sounded like something that was completely impossible to achieve. Almost every component is similar to what has been already in production for years (and no changes to those parts were allowed). And then there were these nice 3D renderings of visually appealing additions that needed to be transformed into actual parts. Plus strong emphasis on user safety etc. First thought was: there is no way we can achieve that! But I know better not to say anything like that out loud. If I remember correctly, my initial comment was "I'll see what can be done". Second thought bit later on was: What if it is not impossible? Where do we have room for adjustment and trying different approaches? Luckily I know places where I can go asking for general ideas and prototype manufacturing both at the same time. Adjusting details while parts are being manufactured etc. After the first prototypes I knew it was doable. The workshop had made bit similar parts for their tool storing solutions already. As usual a lot of optimism and more minor setbacks but when the whole team works together, all it takes is time and effort. And now it is reality.

On September 18 and 19, 2024, leading experts from the furniture and flooring industry, interior designers, contractors and manufacturers of decorative surfaces met in Leipzig at "Surface in Motion", the largest European conference for the decorative surface industry. The event was a hub for innovative ideas and an invaluable networking opportunity. SURTECO GmbH CEO, Wolfgang Moyses, was a prominent voice in a panel discussion that looked at the current state of the wood-based materials industry. The panellists, including Stefan Zinn (CCO, Pfleiderer Group), Rainer Zumholte (Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, SONAE ARAUCO) and Max von Tippelskirch (Chief Strategy and Communication Officer, SWISS KRONO Group) discussed supply chain disruptions, rising raw material prices, the need for sustainable practices, regulatory challenges, industry consolidation and international growth opportunities. Wolfgang Moyses highlighted the major challenges we face today, but also pointed out the immense growth potential of the American and Asian markets. “I see local politicians as having a duty to create more confidence. The mood in Germany is actually worse than it should be.” Overall, “Surface in Motion” provided valuable insights into the decorative surface industry and emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in the future. 📢 TECNALIA heads to R-EVOLVE Kick-off meeting in Florence, Italy! We are proud to announce that Cristina Iriarte from our #ConstructionMaterialsLaboratory attended to the Kick-off meeting of the European Initiative R-EVOLVE organised by Università degli Studi di Firenze and initiative coordinator Angelika Tisch from IFZ. The aim of the R-EVOLVE project is tobring about a systemic change to evolve the furniture industry towards the CircularEconomy (CE) through: 🔷 Innovative circular business models. 🔷 Material and design strategies. 🔷 Digital Product Passport (DPP). This initiative will involve 23 partners in order to drive the European furniture sector towards a circular future. In these two days, the initiative has started with a kick-off meeting, where the competences of each partner have been explored and the needs of the companies have been studied.
