We recently launched new holiday hubs, designed to inspire retailers as they discover fresh products for their stores this holiday season. This project created a unique opportunity for product designers and brand designers to collaborate. While both roles are rooted in design, they approach challenges from distinctly different perspectives. But when they come together, the results can be truly transformative. Product designer Chris Chappelle, photo art director Lisa Ferkel and associate creative director Jessica Hägg share their insights on how these two teams can work better together: https://lnkd.in/ghmUVFrq

“Brand is not what you say it is. It is what they say it is.” Marty Neumeier In other words; A brand is not what we think of ourselves as a company. A brand is what our consumers think of us. Consumers think of a brand basis several factors. We can only architect their thought with the use of strong visuals, colours, logos or fonts. This is where Branding comes into play. As a brand you can list down the 5 senses and what can you do for each sense as a brand. 🗨 Think Mcdonald's and do you visualise the yellow arches 🗨 Think Coke and do you feel happy or have a smile owing to the last time you enjoyed a Coke while watching a movie or with a meal 🗨 Think Britannia and you can almost hear “ting, ting-ta-ting” 🗨 Think iPhone and you can almost feel the sturdy body of the phone 🗨 Think Pringles and you can taste the crunch The above are examples of how a thought of a brand can make you feel. It is these memory structures that make the case for good branding. The route to build interest, facilitate recognition and increase recall is by triggering memory structures at various intervals. As our body gets engaged it helps in decision-making - a phenomenon called “embodied cognition.” The Visual sense takes precedence over others as it is the one that is most evident or easy to replicate or produce across a variety of touchpoints. The more popular a brand, the more important to keep the visual touchpoint stack in control. The following are the most popular formats of branding - ✨ Retail Storefront ✨ Wayfinding Signage ✨ Banners/ Posters ✨ Billboards ✨ Vehicle Branding ✨ Buses, Metro, Taxis ✨ Installations across the city Think of Visual Branding as a starting point. Get this in place and plan for other senses. Let me know if you want to know more about how to establish branding across retail. 🔄 Case Study: Successful Brand Redesigns 🔄 Redesigning a brand can revitalize its image and strengthen its market position. Here are some noteworthy examples of successful brand redesigns: 1. #Apple : Apple’s shift from a colorful, intricate logo to a sleek, monochromatic design helped position the company as a leader in innovative technology and premium products. 2. #Airbnb : Airbnb’s rebranding introduced a simple, universally recognizable logo and a cohesive visual identity, which emphasized belonging and community, aligning perfectly with their mission. 3. #Pepsi : Pepsi’s iterative redesigns have kept the brand relevant over decades. The latest design uses bold colors and a modernized globe icon, emphasizing its refreshing appeal and dynamic nature. 4. #Burberry : Burberry’s logo refresh in 2018 replaced its classic serif font with a bold, sans-serif typeface, reflecting a modern and luxurious reimagining of the historic brand. 5. #Instagram : Instagram’s transition from a detailed, retro camera icon to a minimalistic, gradient design marked its evolution from a photo-sharing app to a global social media platform. Each of these redesigns demonstrates the power of strategic changes in visual identity, enhancing brand perception, and connecting with evolving audiences. A successful redesign requires a deep understanding of brand values, market trends, and customer expectations. #BrandRedesign #CaseStudy #BrandIdentity #GraphicDesign #MarketingStrategy #ceo #founder #startup #agency #graphicsdesigner #logodesigner #logo #design

At Bloomingdale's yesterday, I came across content design in the wild that got me thinking about UX and memory. While checking out the Jo Malone counter, I noticed they did something so simple yet so effective: Each perfume had its own spray card labeled with the name of the scent, in stark contrast of the typical blank tester. Here’s why that’s brilliant: 🌸 Supports future purchases – While her colognes are a fave, let’s be real—at $165 a pop they're not exactly impulse buys. You can walk away, think on it, and actually remember which scent was which. With pricey items, people often take time to decide. This strategy makes sure the memory stays connected to the product even after you leave. 🌸 Facilitates comparison – When testing multiple perfumes, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by choice (and decision fatigue). These labeled cards help customers compare scents more easily, without having to write down names or juggle information mentally. 🌸 Communicates luxury – High-end brands thrive on, well, branding. Jo Malone isn’t just selling a product; they’re selling a thoughtful, premium shopping experience. Having the spray cards prepped for you says, “We’ve already thought of everything—just enjoy.” Content design doesn’t just live on screens. It’s everywhere! #contentdesign #uxdesign #marketing #branding

As a passionate advocate for design, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for brands to maintain a cohesive look across all platforms. It can be disheartening to hear that about 60% of brands struggle with inconsistent design. I’ve been there—scrolling through a feed and feeling jarred by wildly different visuals from the same brand. It just doesn’t feel right, does it? In my opinion, creating a seamless design experience isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about building trust and connection. When everything looks and feels cohesive, it tells your audience that you care about their experience. I’ve learned that the key lies in having a clear vision and sticking to it—whether it’s through a solid brand guideline or just a strong understanding of your core message. The good news? It’s absolutely achievable! By being intentional about design choices and fostering collaboration across teams, brands can create a harmonious presence that resonates. I’ve found that when everyone is on the same page, the magic happens, and suddenly, the brand shines brighter than ever. So, if you’re a creator or brand facing this challenge, don’t fret! Embrace the journey towards design consistency. It’s a process that, when navigated with care, leads to something truly beautiful. #DesignConsistency #BrandIdentity #VisualHarmony #CreativeJourney #OptimisticDesign

Mastering Project Timing for Seasonal Launches: Skye Body Wash's Successful Summer Debut. Seasonal product launches require meticulous planning and execution to capitalize on consumer trends and maximize impact. Our Skye Body Wash's recent summer debut exemplifies how strategic timing, swift co-ordination and seamless execution can drive a successful seasonal launch. Launching a new product line for the summer season demands a keen understanding of consumer behaviour and market dynamics. For Skye Body Wash, the best part was we had the visual architecture in place as we had done the winter edition of Body lotions for the brand, our team had to crack the visual language to reflect the freshness promise for the exotic body washes. With so many variants, Skye aimed to make the summer shower a delightful experience for the consumers. We brought in vibrant, splash-inspired design bursting with the exotic ingredients that would immediately captures the carefree spirit of summer, while the transparent labels showcase the fresh, natural colours that consumers crave during the warmer months. This cohesive visual identity positions Skye Body Wash as a must-have summer essential. The creativity was matched with a keen eye for detail, from the execution point of view with an understanding of the transparent label substrate so at to minimise back and forth on the final artworks from printing point of view. While I believe in getting enough time for creative projects, successful seasonal debuts requires empathising with the brand team’s objective of aligning the product launch with the season's rhythm and both the teams working in lockstep to master the delicate balance of creativity and timing. Skye Body Wash's summer launch is a testament to the power of this integrated approach.
