Every child has a right to a permanent, loving family. For thousands of children in foster care each year, adoption helps achieve that. This National Adoption Month, we celebrate the adoptive families that embrace young people for who they are and allow them to feel proud of where they come from. This year’s theme "Honoring Youth: Strengthening Pathways for Lasting Bonds" emphasizes the importance of meaningful community connections and sense of identity for youth throughout their lives. Placing young people in foster care with families that understand and affirm their identity paves the way for long-term stability and well-being. Fostering and the growth of Families Fostering is more than providing a temporary home for children in need; it's about creating a nurturing environment where both children and families can grow and thrive together. The Impact of Fostering on Families: - Strengthening Family Bonds: Fostering encourages families to come together, working as a team to provide a loving and supportive home for children. - Teaching Empathy and Compassion: Welcoming a foster child into your home teaches family members, especially children, the values of empathy, compassion, and understanding. - Building Lifelong Connections: Many foster families form lasting bonds with the children they care for, creating extended family networks that can last a lifetime. At Black Foster Carers Alliance, we are here to support you on your fostering journey. We offer comprehensive training, resources, and ongoing support to ensure that both you and the children in your care thrive. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a child in need, reach out to us today. June is National Reunification Month, and this year, 47% of children experiencing foster care will reunite with their family this year. That's a fact worth CELEBRATING! 👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾 But while we celebrate, we also can't ignore the other side of it. Because today, in the United States, there are over 100,000 children and youth experiencing foster care who are waiting for permanency. For these children and youth, reunification is no longer the goal-- and instead, finding permanency in another way is. This can look like adoption, guardianship, or kinship care. But too often, it looks like being moved from home to home, from placement to placement, and experiencing disruption after disruption. It looks like being separated from siblings, moving school districts, and being unable to become fully involved in sports and clubs and youth groups and activities because a random move is always possible, and always anticipated. It looks like eating turkey at Thanksgiving with one family and waking up Christmas morning with a new one. For 100,000+ children and youth, that's their reality. A reality that needs changed. In order for us to make a change, we need to be the change. So let's be the change. #fosterthefamily #fosterthefamilyus #thisisfostercare #fostercare #fostercaresupport

1 TO 10 CHILDREN IN THE WORLD NEED YOU AND ARE WAITING FOR YOU More than 700,000 children in WORLD are permanently and legally separated from their biological parents and seeking a new family to call their own. Adoption is a social, emotional, and legal process through which children become full and permanent members of another family, giving the new parent(s) the same rights and obligations as biological parents. Adoption is also multifaceted, occurring in different ways to meet the specific needs of children. For example, kinship adoption by blood relatives or fictive kin who have an emotional connection with the child is one way for Virginia’s children to stay connected to their family, culture and traditions. Foster parents in Virginia also often become forever families to children and have adopted over 60% of our youth in foster care. In Chance Orphanage , we prioritize reunifying children with their families whenever possible, and finding kinship caregivers or new, loving families for children when reunification is not possible. Again,We ask that you consider getting curious – about everything you know or think you know about adopting a child (or children!). Consider opening your heart and home to a child. Consider adoption.

Fostering: The Positive Impact on a Child's Life 🌟 Fostering has a profound, life-changing effect on children in need. Every child deserves a stable, loving environment, but for the 60,000 children in care in the UK (as of 2023), this isn't always the case. Becoming a foster parent can change that. Research shows that children in foster care benefit greatly from supportive families. 70% of children in stable foster placements see improved academic performance and emotional well-being. They are also 50% less likely to experience homelessness in adulthood, according to a study by The Fostering Network. 💙 Every child deserves the chance to thrive, and fostering is a way to help them build resilience, gain confidence, and have a brighter future. If you've ever thought about fostering or want to learn more, drop me a message! Together, we can change the course of a child's life. 💫 #FosteringChangesLives #BeTheChange #MakeADifference

Why? When asked, the most common answer given by foster parents who have chosen not to continue fostering is lack of support. And truly, we get it. The work of stepping into the gap to parent someone else's children (while fighting a system with its fair share of struggles) is not for the faint of heart, it takes a Village. Foster Village bridges this gap between those experiencing foster care and those who want to help, meeting practical needs and providing holistic support beyond the system. By caring for the caregivers and mobilizing an engaged community, we empower generations of vulnerable children and families to overcome adversity.
