FAMINE IN SUDAN: IPC Famine Review Committee Confirms Famine Conditions in parts of North Darfur The escalating violence in Sudan, which has persisted for over 15 months, has led to cross-border movements of over 2 million people becoming #refugees and over 10 million people being internally displaced. It also resulted in people in parts of North Darfur facing severe conditions due to impeded humanitarian access. The Famine Review Committee (FRC) of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has concluded that famine conditions are prevalent in parts of North Darfur, notably the Zamzam Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp south of El Fasher into Famine: -     After a comprehensive review of the available evidence, the FRC has determined that IPC Phase 5 (Famine) conditions—the worst form of hunger—are currently present and are likely to continue through the end of October 2024. Famine, the highest and most severe phase in the IPC classification, applies at the area level.  -     Zamzam, located south of El Fasher town, is one of the largest IDP camps in Sudan, with an estimated population of at least 500,000 people.  https://lnkd.in/e_QrFfhk

Meet Tunaweza Group, a women owned chicken rearing model farmers in Karema Ward, Tanganyika District in Katavi region. The group is collaborating with USAID Lishe (Nutrition) project in addressing stunting through promtion of poultry keeping at household level. Malnutrition is a key challenge in most families in Tanzania, especially for women of reproductive age and the under five children. Leveraging poultry rearing in school feeding program, preschool and parenting coupled with increasing access, availability and affordability of nutrition dense foods at houshold level is one of the ways to address stunting in the coutry. USAID Lishe (Nutrition) project is being implemnted in five regions of Njombe, Songwe, Rukwa, Katavi and Kigoma focused in increasing and improving consumption of safe and nutritious foods.

October 16th is World Food Day 🍽️🌎 The day aims to promote global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and to highlight the need to ensure healthy diets for all. Every year, World Food Day is observed to raise awareness about food security and promote action to combat hunger and malnutrition worldwide. During the 1979 FAO Conference, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) officially established World Food Day as a worldwide event. A UN report shows that the number of people suffering from hunger worldwide is at a record high. Around 345 million people are affected by acute food insecurity, of which around 50 million people in 45 countries are on the brink of famine. From 2023, Austria has increased the amount of yearly aid given and will continue to contribute to alleviating the humanitarian situation.
