🌳 Arbo-Innova is a collaborative project aimed at addressing the ecological challenges of intensive olive and almond farming through regenerative agriculture practices. 🍄 The project focuses on improving soil health, crop resilience, and nutrient density in these high-intensity systems. 🌿 RHEA leads the research on #nutrientdensity, studying how regenerative practices impact the nutritional profiles of olives and almonds. ✅ The European Union leads the world in olive oil production, responsible for 68% of global output. ✅ Spain alone produces over 1.4 million tons of olive oil annually, accounting for 40-45% of global production. ✅ Intensive systems are particularly vulnerable to #climatechange due to their high water dependency. ✅ Intensive systems face #ecological challenges such as soil erosion, water overexploitation, and biodiversity loss. Is there a nutritional difference between conventional olives and those grown using regenerative practices? We are about to find out! I am very proud of our NGO co-founder, Raiza Rezende, for leading the nutrient density research in the Arboinnova project managed by Agrosystemic. We need to create food supply chains in which the nutritional value and health of the soil are priorities by all of the steholders along the chain. Nothing is more crucial than restoring soil productivity while increasing the health-promoting nutrient composition in our food.

For hundreds of years, Indigenous people have developed and practiced methods such as companion planting, seed saving, polyculture, no and low-till methods, agroforestry, and controlled fires to maintain the biodiversity of the land.
