Defra has confirmed 76 capital grant items will temporarily close to new applications due to 'unprecedented demand'. The department said agreements that have already been signed 'will be met', with 'further funding prioritised to help build a sustainable farming sector.' For those who have applied for a grant that is temporarily withdrawn, their application will be put on hold for now and will be contacted early next year. https://ow.ly/MbwK50UgQCh

Whilst the rigour of the BPS application has gone, there is still a requirement for farmers and landowners to complete annual Countryside Stewardship (CS) revenue claims and Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) declarations. If you hold a CS or SFI agreement, doing nothing is not an option, and your deadline is still 15th May! You can update your records yourself, but if you would like support, speak to your Ceres Rural advisor, or contact Robert Gazely on robert.gazely@ceresrural.co.uk. In the past few years, the popularity of carbon farming as diversification has risen for landholders. While it’s still sometimes a contentious discussion, more and more farmers are entering the sphere and reaping the financial benefits. But even as the field becomes more stable, the length of the projects means not a single project has run it’s course, and therefore some of the legalities have no precendent. Georgina Lamond from Moin Morris Schaefer spoke to me for Growing Country to outline what landholders should know when considering entering the carbon space. #carbonfarming #GrowingCountry #diversification
