Making it simpler and cheaper for farmers to integrate profitable carbon crops into their farming business.
About us
The CFF was founded to make it simpler and cheaper for farmers to integrate profitable carbon crops into their farming business. As a registered not-for-profit, all profits that come into the organisation go back to helping Aussie farmers. We support landholders to compliantly set up and manage their own carbon projects through provision of resources, guidance, templates, and support. Importantly, our clients retain 100% ownership of carbon credits generated from the project. The Carbon Farming Foundation (ABN 67 645 498 004) is a Corporate Authorised Representative (AFS Representative No.001298535) of True Oak Investments Ltd (ABN 81 002 558 956, AFSL 238184). What is the natural capital market? 🍃🪱 The natural capital market recognises the value of nature, such as clean water, healthy soils, and biodiversity, which are often overlooked in traditional accounting. It provides financial rewards for protecting and restoring natural ecosystems. For landholders, this means an opportunity to earn extra income, safeguard their environment, and make their land more sustainable and resilient for the future. In our recent article we discuss the growing interest in the nature capital market and how it relates to carbon credits, read it here: https://lnkd.in/gHQEFZjG #farming #sustainableagriculture #climateaction #climatechange #sustainablefarming #environmentalsustainability #carboncredits

What is a Plantation Forestry Carbon Project? 🍃 Plantation forestry isn’t just about growing trees for timber. It’s about sequestering carbon, enhancing biodiversity, and earning Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). Let’s break it down. A plantation forestry project involves growing and managing trees on rotation over a 25 or 100-year period. By growing plantation species, you’re removing CO₂ from the atmosphere and storing it in trees, debris, and harvested wood products. Registering your plantation under the ACCU Scheme’s 2022 Plantation Forestry Method allows you to earn tradeable carbon credits. There are four ways to earn ACCUs: 🌳 Establishing a new plantation 🌳 Converting an existing plantation from short to longer rotations 🌳 Continuing plantation activities where you would otherwise change to a different land use 🌳 Transitioning a plantation to permanent forest Take a look at our Plantation Forestry guide to learn more. #farming #sustainableagriculture #climateaction #climatechange #sustainablefarming #environmentalsustainability #carboncredits

What is carbon farming and how does it work? 🤔🌳 Carbon farming is the process of landholders capturing and storing carbon across carbon projects. By capturing and storing carbon in plants and soil, landholders can reduce atmospheric CO₂, improve their land’s resilience, and access the carbon market. Here’s how it works: 🪱 Adopt carbon-friendly practices to increase soil carbon or capture CO₂ in trees. 🌾 Boost productivity with healthier soils and more resilient paddocks. 🍃 Generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for each tonne of CO₂e stored. 💵 Diversify your income by selling ACCUs or accessing carbon-neutral markets. The impact to your land? Improved soil fertility, higher yields, better water retention and reduced input costs. And to top it off, the value of ACCUs has been on the up, certified carbon offset trader, Clima, have reported an 24% price increase in 2024. Want to know more? Did you know that soil stores more carbon than the atmosphere and all the world’s plants combined? 🪱 On #WorldSoilDay we wanted to highlight how crucial soil is to healthy ecosystems. Soil is a powerhouse for pulling carbon out of the atmosphere and locking it away for decades, and sometimes even centuries. But when soil is degraded, that stored carbon is released as CO₂, adding to global warming. The solution? Healthy, carbon-rich soils. Through sustainable practices like no-till farming, cover cropping, and regenerative grazing, we can: 🌱 Lock away more carbon 🌾 Improve soil fertility for better yields ⛈️ Boost resilience against climate extremes Carbon-rich soils don’t just benefit the planet, they benefit landholders too, including improved productivity and the creation of carbon credits from carbon farming projects. We offer services to help establish carbon farming projects across Australia, learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gTE8Vv8a #farming #sustainableagriculture #climateaction #climatechange #sustainablefarming #environmentalsustainability #carboncredits

Last week, we saw the highly anticipated new Reforestation Method released in time for 2025 planting commencement 🌳 This updated method, officially titled Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings 2024, replaces the 2014 version, which expired on 30th September 2024. So, what’s changed? While much remains the same, a few key updates could benefit participants in a big way: 🌱 Updated guidance for infill planting 📄 More detailed planning and record-keeping 🌿 Partial relaxation of spacing requirements 🕒 Project activities can start earlier 🍃 Allowance for harvest of seeds from your planting We’ve broken it all down in our latest article, where CFF’s Samuel Bean discusses why this method matters and how the changes have made it easier to implement: https://lnkd.in/gfBSaEvS Also, in a couple of weeks we’ll be hosting an exclusive webinar to walk you through the new method and answer your questions. New Reforestation Method Released - Carbon Farming Foundation

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has today released the much-anticipated new Environmental Plantings Method, allowing ACCU Scheme participants to register their projects in time for planting in 2025. 🌳 The new Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings 2024 method replaces the 2014 version which expired on 30 September this year. The CFF welcomes the timely release of the new method and views updates to the requirements as positive steps for market participants.🎉 Key changes include the ability to: 🌿 Commence project activities as soon as the project application is submitted. Previously participants were required to wait until the project is approved to conduct site preparation and order plants, adding delays. 🌿 Harvest seed from environmental plantings for personal or commercial use, to support the expansion of native planting activities. 🌿 Infill plant to enhance biodiversity and boost forest cover potential without affecting the project planting date. 🌿 Plant using more relaxed spacing requirements. There is an additional requirement to complete a Reforestation Management Plan for each project, which allows for more effective planning and record-keeping. The 2020 version of FullCAM will continue to apply to the method until further guidance is released on the use of the 2024 version currently in development. We’re hard at work digesting the details of this exciting development and will provide a more comprehensive update next week. In the meantime, if you’d like to discuss a planting project for 2025 or beyond, please get in touch via hello@carbonfarming.org.au or 08 6835 1140. #farming #sustainableagriculture #climateaction #climatechange #sustainablefarming #environmentalsustainability #carboncredits #ACCU #environmentalplanting #reforestation #DCCEEW #carbonfarming
