I recently had the chance to speak about the importance of media relations. For organizations like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), effective media relations mean they can communicate vital messages to the public efficiently and credibly. In turn, the media benefits from receiving newsworthy and reliable content to share with their audiences. I shared my own experiences on why you shouldn’t just wing it but really take the time to learn and master media relations. It’s a crucial skill that helps organizations communicate effectively and maintain a positive public image. Building these relationships takes effort, but the rewards are well worth it. New on RPR Riffs: The Public Relations Playbook Pitch Perfect: Mastering the Art of Irresistible Media Pitches Whether you’re promoting a groundbreaking product, an inspiring story, or a must-know piece of news, nailing your media pitch is key to catching a journalist’s eye and securing that coveted coverage.

It was an honour and a privilege to be at the PRCA Fellows' Lunch at the House of Lords. The guest speaker was the exceptional Dwain Chambers. I'm a cynic when it comes to 'inspirational' or 'motivational' speakers and am rarely moved. I prefer to hear more practical speakers such as politicians, academics or authors. Dwain was an exception. He was truly inspirational. I don't think I was the only one in the room who might have a tear in the corner of their eye. I was there with my client 72Point and was struck by how the theme of storytelling and narrative ran through the speakers and questions. In this introductory speech 72Point CEO Chris Pharo talked about his journey from journalism to public relations. He said "While journalism and PR may differ in some respects, what connects them is the power of storytelling. The art of narrative is central to both, and the drive to innovate, adapt, and capture the attention of audiences has only grown stronger." After the main course Dwain spoke about his journey. It was a classic story from setting the scene as an inner London kid to junior athletic star, his rise to Olympic champion, followed by the classic narrative nightmare of his doping downfall then his redemption in the 2012 Olympics to today. I wasn't the only one wowed by Dwain's story telling prowess and redemption as Rod Cartwright asked him about how he had learnt to tell his story so effectively.
