The path to a carbon neutral electric grid is through building more battery storage solutions. I recently learned about compressed air energy storage (CAES) through a press release about a project by Hydrostor in Kern county, California. The beauty in this technology is that the science behind it is rather simple. This technology offers very good advantages that the more common Li-ion battery cannot: ▪️ Longevity: CAES systems can last up to 50 years, far outlasting conventional batteries. ▪️ Scalability: With capacities ranging from 3-400MW, CAES can meet large-scale energy storage needs. ▪️ Versatility: CAES can provide heating and cooling in addition to electricity, making it a true trigeneration solution. ▪️ Environmental friendliness: No toxic disposal is required, reducing environmental impact.
