We share the people's thoughts and angush about the lack of democracy in Nigeria. Our coalition of Civil Society Organizations "Local Government Autonomy Network in Kano State and "Alliances of Democrats" strongly Advocates the need to oppose the undemocratic trend taking hold of the Nation today. With so much self-serving politicians in office only satiating their personal whelms. The masses are hunger, the government service supply sectors healthcare, education, and regulatory roles are almost none existent. No credible elections, and even when elections are held there's no transparency, fairness and accountability. Local Government Concils are run by unelected officials and unqualified proxies!! No rules are operational, the level of decay is getting worst every day. The regulatory and State control system is being eroded by the day with no hope for redemption insight. #CSO, #LocalPressureGroups and INGOs must rise up to #ourdemocracynow Nigeria democracy is a individual investment platform for the strongest and most daring selfish aggrandisers to reap what they have not sown by arm twisting us #inthenameofdemocracy #MacArthur and our intervention/#UN agencies will have to realign It's policy and practice to achieve these.

Every one of these countries, with the exception of the United States, conducts their elections within a single day and announces the results the following day after voting concludes. The vast majority employ methods such as paper ballots, inked thumbs, and voter identification to ensure the integrity of the vote. Notably, several of these nations have a voting population that is two to four times larger than that of the United States. It was not long ago that the United States also utilized paper ballots, held elections on a single day, and announced results by the next day. Clearly, the United States has the potential to significantly improve its electoral process. https://lnkd.in/gdtT4xZk

If there is no executive interference from the governors and there is administrative and financial autonomy that ensures that SIECs are well resourced, we will start to see a marked improvement in the conduct of local government elections. NILGEC is a misadventure. The National Assembly should assist SIECs to wrestle their administrative and financial autonomy from the governors by amending the relevant sections of the Nigerian Constitution to effect this.
No need for Local Government Independent Electoral Commission

Defenders of the People and Another v Electoral Commission of South Africa and Another (0016/24EC) [2024] ZAEC 10 Summary: Section 27(2) of the Electoral Act – Election Timetable for the Election – non-compliance by applicants with requirements to submit the required number of voter signatures to contest regional and provincial elections by the deadline set in the electoral timetable – non-compliance and failure to meet deadlines in timetable factually to be blamed on the applicants and not on the Electoral Commission – therefore, nothing irrational about the Electoral Commission’s insistence on compliance with the deadlines in the timetable. 👉: https://lnkd.in/dS_GcEWp
