What goes on in a Baraat ceremony? In an Indian wedding, the baraat is more than just a procession; it’s a vibrant celebration marking the groom’s grand arrival at the bride’s home. Today the Baraat culture has become popular with most weddings. The groom, often dressed in an Indian attire, typically sits on a horse decorated in an Indian costume, some baraats also see the groom arriving on a majestic elephant or in decorated vintage cars, and royal carriages. Surrounded by family and friends, the baraat is a party on the move! The baraat symbolizes the groom’s journey to claim his bride, this procession takes place just before the wedding ceremony with dancing, music, and joy, The groom’s family and guests dance through the procession to the beat of dhols (traditional drums) or band that consists of tubas, bass drums, cymbals tabla, and trombones creating an electrifying atmosphere. In North India, the groom arrives on a decorated horse, with the baraatis dancing to lively dhol beats. Rajasthani baraats feature royal arrivals on elephants or vintage cars, set to traditional folk music. In South India, the baraat is more understated, with classical music and the groom often arriving in a car. Gujarati baraats are energetic, with the groom on a horse or jeep, and everyone dancing to Garba or Dandiya music. The baraat symbolizes the groom’s joyous journey to the bride’s home with family and friends celebrating the union of two families. Should you pick a hotel or a wedding dinner in front of the house in the hometown? Every location type has it's own pros and cons, which depends on your budget. The main advantage of hosting the wedding in a hotel is that it is all inclusive. Most hotel packages include the venue, food and drinks, table set ups, bridal decor, audio visual such as LED screens, the latest sound systems etc, etc. It will be different depending on the hotel or resort. For our Malay weddings packages for example, we will also add in a complimentary emcee and photographer. So we basically tell the couples, don't worry about anything, just come and get married. We will handle the rest! The only con that I can think of is that a hotel venue is the most expensive of the other thought of venues. From my recent trip, I saw that most of the hotels in Singapore are charging more than RM6k per table of 10 paxs for a wedding dinner.....(>S$ 2K). Always budget on the assumption that you are not recovering the cost from the guests gifts or angpows. Then think about whether you are willing to spend that much on a "once in a lifetime" party.
