Sustainable climate finance requires not just a monetary investment but also a shift in attitude towards climate change among investors and financiers. The impact of their portfolios in mitigating climate change effects can be significantly amplified with this change. The 2023 report from the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF) is a testament to this shift. It reveals a near-consensus among Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) on the urgent need to act against climate change. 93% of SWFs view climate change as a risk and opportunity for their portfolios, and 88% incorporate climate change considerations into their investment processes. While many SWFs invest in tangible climate solutions like renewable energy, energy efficiency projects, and low-emission transport, comprehensive multi-asset or whole portfolio approaches are still in their infancy. Stay tuned for more insights from the upcoming IFSWF survey, conducted in partnership with the One Planet Sovereign Wealth Fund Network. PS: Recent research from scientists at the University of Sheffield offers new insights into the broader impact of forestation on the Earth's climate. The positive effects of forestation are potentially smaller than previously thought, as complex Earth System responses could partially offset these benefits by up to a third. Why is this relevant? As you know, the IPCC recognizes carbon removal strategies, such as forestation, as an essential measure to mitigate the risk of future climate change. #swf #ifswf #climatefinance #forests #oneplanet
