🔋Lithium waste batteries cause hundreds of fires in waste facilities, putting workers at risk and costing operators millions each year. So how do we handle this problem? FEAD, in cooperation with BMRA, EERA - WEEE recyclers, EBRA, EUCOBAT, EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries, Insurance Europe, RECHARGE, and WEEE Forum, has published an industry guide on the collecting, handling, and treating of waste lithium batteries. The guide presents key measures to tackle this challenge and improve safety across the sector. Find it in the comments 👇 #wastebatteries #lithiumbattery

Last week, we hosted an important event on closing the EU waste legislation implementation gap! On 4 February, EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries, FEAD, MUNICIPAL WASTE EUROPE, CEWEP, Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), Eurocities, and the EESC came together for a full-day event at the European Economic and Social Committee to discuss key challenges in waste management and recycling at both the EU and local levels. 🔹 Key Takeaways: ✅ Virgin materials remain cheaper than recycled ones, and financing remains a major hurdle. ✅ Stronger enforcement of existing & future EU waste legislation is critical. ✅ Local entities face permitting delays, funding challenges, and regulatory uncertainty. ✅ The waste & recycling industry plays a key role in the EU’s sustainability and circularity goals. A huge thank you to all our expert speakers for their insightful contributions! 🙌 #fromvisiontoaction #circulareconomy #wastereduction

🚨 Tomorrow: our first Circular Economy Value Chain Partnerships Workshop – ‘Hazards Out’ on Household Hazardous Waste! FEAD, in partnership with ACR+ | Association of Cities and Regions for sustainable Resource management+ and Hazardous Waste Europe, has joined forces in the Hazards Out project to support local authorities, industry, and stakeholders in implementing the mandatory separate collection of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). To exchange best practices and boost collaboration on HHW management, the Hazards Out team is organising a series of workshops. The first session, 'What is going to change?', will bring together speakers to explore different perspectives and challenges. 📅 Check out the agenda below! 🔗 Haven’t registered yet? 📍The Parliament's draft report on ELVs is not bold enough to push ecodesign, technological innovation, and real circularity in the automotive sector, especially compared to the Commission's proposal! WHY? 👉 The recycled plastic content target has dropped from 25% to 20% 👉 The closed-loop target has been reduced from 25% to 15% 👉 Biobased plastic and pre-consumer plastic waste are included in meeting these targets, significantly endangering the plastic recycling sector, by diverting attention and resources away from actual recycling efforts Read our press release, with EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries, to find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eh5E4Rjb Contexte RETEMA POLITICO Europe Pierfrancesco Maran MEP Pascal Canfin

🚨 Large Nitrous Oxide Canisters (N₂O) are putting workers at risk! Improperly disposed large N₂O canisters are causing dangerous explosions in waste management facilities, exposing workers to life-threatening hazards. In Belgium and the Netherlands, workers have narrowly escaped serious injury from shrapnel and extreme pressure bursts caused by these incidents. The risk is growing as large N₂O canisters flood waste streams, driven by their misuse for recreational purposes. Many of these canisters are fraudulently marketed as food additives, despite having no legitimate culinary use. This is why FEAD, CEWEP, European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU), and MUNICIPAL WASTE EUROPE fully welcome the classification of nitrous oxide as a reproductive toxicant under the CLP Regulation and support the subsequent restriction under REACH as proposed by the European Commission. On top of bettering worker safety, these restrictions will also tackle the environmental and economic repercussions of this growing issue.

🛑 'If you could edit/modify one piece of legislation that you believe would help us achieve our circular economy goals, which one would it be?' That's the question our moderator, Jean-Paul Judson, just asked our panellists currently discussing how to achieve energy and material autonomy through circular economy policies. From the Waste Framework Directive, to the need for a Circular Economy Fund and harmonisation across legislations, the varied responses show us the importance of having this discussion! What about you? Which legislation do you think needs to be changed to help us achieve our circular economy goals? #fromvisiontoaction #circulareconomy #wastereduction
