Birds are a gift that keeps giving, yet must never be taken for granted. This is why we at Feather Friendly have been putting our hearts and souls into protecting them, day after day, year after year, since 2006. As we strive to protect the birds we love so much, we are filled with gratitude for what 2024 has brought us. To put things in context, we treated over a million square feet of glass in close to 30 countries this year! While each project represented a unique contribution to avian safety, we are proud to share a few that stood out because of their sheer scale and the shining examples that they set for buildings worldwide: ➡️McCormick Place, Chicago: We treated nearly 120,000 square feet of glass at McCormick Place in a project that not only set a new standard for environmental stewardship. ➡️Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland: At the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, 73,000 square feet of glass has been treated with Bird Divert markers. These markers leverage birds' natural abilities to see UV light, alerting them to glass and preventing collisions. ➡️Centennial Towers, Ottawa: Thanks to our partnership with and our authorized dealer, Lindian, over 25,000 square feet of glass at 200 Kent Street was treated with our Large-scale Pro markers. That’s not all - we have some very exciting news that we cannot wait to share in early 2025! Keep watching this space for more!

Did you know that hundreds of millions of birds die annually from collisions with glass windows in urban areas? This statistic reflects a crisis that often goes unseen in our daily lives but has big impacts on our environment. At Bird Divert, we're driven by data to create solutions that matter. Our mission isn't just about business; it's about making a tangible difference in the world. Today, we're sharing some crucial statistics about bird collisions to highlight the importance of proactive measures: 1.7 to 2 billion: The estimated number of birds that die each year worldwide due to window strikes. -Top 3: Window collisions are among the top three human-related causes of bird deaths. -Urban Impact: Birds are 40% more likely to die from window collisions in urban environments than in rural areas. These numbers are a call to action. They show why our work at Bird Divert is so necessary — and why your support makes a real difference. Together, we can turn these statistics around with simple, effective solutions like our Bird Divert markers that make windows visible to birds without disrupting human views. Let’s keep our feathered friends safe. Learn more about how you can help at Bird Divert. https://lnkd.in/e6eGkCWZ

A New Land Designation - "Wildbelt". The Wildlife Trust has published a report which identifies various approaches to development that can have positive impacts for nature, climate and communities. Craig Bennett, chief executive of The Wildlife Trust, says: “The UK has agreed to protect at least 30% of land for nature by 2030, yet the latest calculations show we’re heading in the opposite direction... It’s not good enough just to protect the nature we’ve got left. We need to create new space for nature, which is why we’re calling for a new land designation, Wildbelt, to rebuild our natural infrastructure alongside built infrastructure. This could be a game-changer for UK nature recovery.” Read the full report here⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dyvjdPCF #NatureRecovery #LandscapeDesign

Flaco the Owl's recent tragic death in Central Park highlights the urgent need for bird-friendly buildings. Up to one billion birds annually suffer similar fates due to collisions with buildings, making this a leading cause of bird mortality. Flaco's passing has spurred action, including the proposed FLACO Act in New York, to mandate bird-friendly designs in state buildings. Organizations like the American Bird Conservancy provide resources and advocate for bird-friendly building legislation. At Orion Laser Tech, we're committed to sustainability and conservation. Our laser-engraved technology creates markings that are visible to humans but reduce the risk of bird collisions. Let's work together to protect our feathered friends and create safer environments for them. https://lnkd.in/eMVTc-58 #birdfriendlybuildings #birdfriendly #sonservation #ORIONLaserTech 🦉🏢 https://lnkd.in/euMcNWh3

Birds do so much for us, from pollination🌺to pest control. 🪲 They inspire and delight us. 🦅 But birds are in trouble. They need our help. American Bird Conservancy (ABC) takes bold action for birds across the Americas. With diverse partners, we’re preventing imminent bird extinctions, improving millions of acres of habitat with bird-friendly management practices, and advocating for solutions to urgent threats that put birds at risk. Now celebrating our 30th year, we’re just getting started. Join us! Together, we can do more to safeguard birds for future generations. 🐣 https://lnkd.in/g8e2rvMS #30YearsOfABC #BirdConservation #BoldForBirds

The benefits beavers provide to fish and wildlife, ecosystems, and humans are amazingly diverse and numerous. Society is beginning to fully reimagine and rebuild a world where beavers are allowed to return and thrive within their native ranges. Did you know that wildlife crossings in Banff National Park have reduced wildlife-vehicle collisions by up to 80%? 🛣 🦌 Let's bring these life-saving measures to the Frontenac Arch, where countless species—many of which are at-risk—face dangerous roads daily. Our Right to Roam report outlines the crucial mitigation measures needed to reduce these collisions on three major roads between Gananoque and Brockville: Highway 401, Thousand Islands Parkway, and Leeds County Road 2. Most critically, the report calls for 3 wildlife overpasses on Highway 401, where the need is most urgent. These overpasses will: - Reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions - Improve landscape connectivity - Help facilitate genetic movement between populations - Increase driver safety - Provide safe passageways for wildlife Please sign our Action Alert urging the Ontario Government to support these vital crossings in the Frontenac Arch region. 🚨 Take Action TODAY ➡ https://lnkd.in/dvxuv9gK

Fences are a pervasive feature of western working landscapes and a useful management tool, but they also have serious potential to impact wildlife, with some acting as movement barriers and others causing injury or even death. They are of particular concern for migratory populations of big game in the western United States, where herds often move hundreds of miles between seasonal ranges. Check out our new technical note: https://buff.ly/4a0GiMb The note covers a variety of topics from inventory to monitoring and presents design alternatives from avoiding fence impacts altogether to minimizing and mitigating impacts through “wildlife-friendlier” fence options.

Falconry is an effective, natural method for keeping pest birds away. Here’s how it works: 📌 Natural Predator Presence: Trained birds of prey, like falcons or hawks, are flown in the area where pest birds (such as pigeons or seagulls) are causing issues. These pest birds recognize raptors as natural predators and instinctively avoid areas where they see or sense their presence. 📌 Deterrent Effect: The mere presence of falcons or hawks is enough to scare away pest birds without physical confrontation. They associate the area with danger and, over time, learn to stay away entirely. 📌 Non-Lethal Control: Falconry is humane and environmentally friendly, as the trained birds are not there to hunt or harm pest birds but rather to serve as a deterrent. This method helps manage bird populations without causing harm or disturbing local ecosystems. 📌 Long-Term Results: When performed consistently, falconry creates a lasting effect as pest birds establish new roosting sites away from the area, reducing the need for continuous intervention. Using falconry as a bird control method is a sustainable and effective solution, particularly for large commercial spaces, rooftops, or open areas. #BirdControlSolutions #ProjectMultiPest #PestFreeEnvironment #HealthAndSafety #PropertyProtection #EffectivePestControl #CleanWorkSpace #BirdProofing #PestControlExperts #ProtectYourProperty #FalconryBirdControl #NaturalBirdDeterrent #EcoFriendlyPestControl #HumaneBirdControl #ProjectMultiPest #PestBirdManagement #LongTermBirdControl #SustainableSolutions #BirdProofing #CommercialBirdControl
