Bird collision monitoring programs reveal why and where birds hit windows, enabling targeted solutions such as Feather Friendly and Bird Divert markers to be deployed. Notable programs include Toronto’s FLAP Canada, Alabama Audubon's Project Safe Flight, Philadelphia’s Bird Safe Philly, and Chicago Bird Collision Monitors. These groups document strikes, rescue injured birds, and advocate for changes. Inspired to establish your own program? The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has a wonderful resource: https://lnkd.in/g-23dr2P In brief, you will need to take the following steps: 1️⃣ Set Goals: Define your focus - specific buildings, seasons, or species. 2️⃣ Assemble a Team: Recruit volunteers and assign roles like data collection. 3️⃣ Design Your Study: Decide when and how often to monitor, and outline documentation methods. 4️⃣ Collect Data: Record bird collisions systematically. 5️⃣ Analyze Results: Use your data to identify patterns and inform solutions. #birdsafe #glasscollision #featherfriendly #birdsafeglass #education #provensolution #conservation #birdconservation #birds #glass #savebirds #DIY #wildlifeconservation #markers #treatglasssavebirds #wildlifeconservation #sustainability #greensolution #USFWS

Reduces reflection & alerts #birds to avoid collisions. Approved by: Flap Canada & American Bird Conservancy.
About us
It is estimated that collisions account for 1 billion bird deaths each year, or 10% of the total bird population in North America. In all of these collisions, buildings pose the biggest threat. Exterior glass, whether it be clear, tinted, or reflective, is not a recognizable part of the natural world for birds, and therefore, they simply do not 'see' it. Daytime collisions are generally associated with the reflection on the glass of vegetation or the sky on the lower 3-5 floors. Feather Friendly® was developed 10 years ago and is on its 6th generation. In that 10 years we have sold our solution globally with great success in reducing and eliminating bird collisions. Toronto was the first city in the world to develop Safe Building bylaws in regards to bird conservation. Similar guidelines have been adopted in major cities across North America as well as globally. Feather Friendly® is not a film but a marker that is placed on the outside surface to reduce reflection and alert birds to avoid a collision. It is fabricated from only the highest quality 3M product and carries all the durability and performance assurances from 3M. Our Commercial and DIY products have been used for over 10 years on thousands of residential and commercial installations with the highest performance rating both in longevity and reduced collisions. It is for both new construction as well as retrofit projects. We offer Commercial - Design, Consulting, Supply and Install or Supply only - and Residential DIY solutions. Feather Friendly® is recognized, approved and endorsed by both the American Bird Conservancy and FLAP Canada and is quickly becoming the number one choice to reduce bird collisions with glass. We previously shared that Feather Friendly made a monumental impact on bird safety at McCormick Place in Chicago, with a drastic reduction in bird collisions having been recorded. Further monitoring by the Field Museum has now shown a 95% reduction in bird collisions, saving countless migratory birds. Snow place like home. This Snowy Owl is enjoying a perfect perch with Toronto's CN Tower in the background, a reminder that some of our favourite birds have to navigate the hidden dangers in urban landscapes, including untreated glass. While this bird is safe, not every bird is so lucky. Windows can be a real ‘pane’ for our feathered friends, with billions lost to glass collisions each year. Keep their flights safe and their perches plentiful with Feather Friendly markers! We're grateful to for championing bird conservation at Center, a true gem of biodiversity in Auburn. With the help of Lianne Koczur, Alabama Audubon’s Science & Conservation Director, Feather Friendly markers are now protecting local birds from window collisions at this unique, 120-acre preserve. It’s a beautiful spot that offers a blend of forests, wetlands, and wildlife, making it the perfect place for this critical initiative. We’re excited to share some stunning photos from the installation and celebrate this milestone for birds! #birdsafe #glasscollision #featherfriendly #birdsafeglass #education #provensolution #conservation #birdconservation #birds #glass #savebirds #DIY #wildlifeconservation #markers #treatglasssavebirds #wildlifeconservation #sustainability #greensolution #Alabama #Audubon

Birdwatching is more than a hobby and 96 million Americans are proving this by participating and giving wings to conservation and economic growth. But here’s the thing - while birders spend billions to enjoy and protect birds, some of the biggest threats to birds happen right at home - on our windows. Every year, billions of birds fall victim to glass collisions, a challenge that no backyard birder or world-traveling lister wants to ignore. Feather Friendly exists to bridge that gap. By making glass safer for birds, we help ensure that birders can enjoy their passion without a shadow on the horizon. Loving birds isn’t just about admiring them - it’s about taking action to ensure their safety. Untreated glass fools birds, often fatally, but it should not fool us. We know better, and we can do better. This animation shows two futures: one where a window becomes a fatal illusion, and another where simple Feather Friendly markers turn it into a lifeline. As 2025 draws near, let's vow to make every window and pane of glass bird-safe! #birdsafe #glasscollision #featherfriendly #birdsafeglass #education #provensolution #conservation #birdconservation #birds #glass #savebirds #DIY #wildlifeconservation #markers #treatglasssavebirds #wildlifeconservation #sustainability #greensolution #goals #2025

Birds are a gift that keeps giving, yet must never be taken for granted. This is why we at Feather Friendly have been putting our hearts and souls into protecting them, day after day, year after year, since 2006. As we strive to protect the birds we love so much, we are filled with gratitude for what 2024 has brought us. To put things in context, we treated over a million square feet of glass in close to 30 countries this year! While each project represented a unique contribution to avian safety, we are proud to share a few that stood out because of their sheer scale and the shining examples that they set for buildings worldwide: ➡️McCormick Place, Chicago: We treated nearly 120,000 square feet of glass at McCormick Place in a project that not only set a new standard for environmental stewardship. ➡️Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland: At the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, 73,000 square feet of glass has been treated with Bird Divert markers. These markers leverage birds' natural abilities to see UV light, alerting them to glass and preventing collisions. ➡️Centennial Towers, Ottawa: Thanks to our partnership with and our authorized dealer, Lindian, over 25,000 square feet of glass at 200 Kent Street was treated with our Large-scale Pro markers. That’s not all - we have some very exciting news that we cannot wait to share in early 2025! Keep watching this space for more!

Education. Conservation. Proven Solutions. We live by this motto and are delighted to see it in action with new initiative Bird Safe Schools. This new endeavor by one of our favorite avian conservation advocacy groups in Philadelphia is more than just a conservation project -- it’s about inspiring the next generation of environmental advocates. By blending environmental education with actionable solutions, Bird Safe Schools empower kids to be part of the solution. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been part of this initiative with our markers being used on the glass at , which is now recognized as the first bird-safe school in Philadelphia! Third-grade students at Springside took the lead in installing Feather Friendly markers on windows in the school’s cafeteria, which helped them connect with real-world conservation efforts, applying our proven solutions to make a tangible difference. Feather Friendly is proud to contribute to this impactful initiative and looks forward to future projects that bring awareness and protection to birds in urban spaces. Walking the Talk on Sustainability It’s incredibly inspiring to see environmental organizations leading by example. GreenUP in Peterborough, Ontario, took a step to protect wildlife by teaming up with Zack from our authorized dealer/applicator and to install Feather Friendly Large-Scale Pro markers on their windows. Birds face many challenges—glass shouldn’t be one of them. These markers help prevent deadly collisions while showing how small changes can have a big impact on biodiversity. Seeing Zack smile as he installed the markers says it all—this is work that matters. Thank you, GreenUP, for making your mission visible in every sense of the word. #birdsafe #glasscollision #featherfriendly #birdsafeglass #education #provensolution #conservation #birdconservation #birds #glass #savebirds #DIY #wildlifeconservation #markers #treatglasssavebirds #wildlifeconservation #sustainability #greensolution
