Closing out my participation at the Sprint Robotics World Conference 2024, I would like to share a quick look back at some of the key moments and insights. With over 15 years dedicated to robotics—a field I’m deeply passionate about—it was both a privilege and a recognition to once again be invited as a speaker and to moderate a session on task-based use cases for subsea applications, collaborating with industry experts like Aksel Transeth (SINTEF), Sebastian Henrion & Harold van Heukelum (Boskalis), and Andrew Ludar-Smith (Jacobs). Their contributions sparked important discussions on the advancements and challenges in subsea robotics. Key takeaways from the event: - Over the past 9 years, it is evident that SPRINT Robotics has built a solid global community across the robotics value chain for inspection and maintenance (I&M) with excellence—a remarkable achievement. While sustaining an engaged and growing network (currently 130 companies: 23 Asset Owners and 107 Associate Participants) and fostering collaboration among members to build unique knowledge and guidance (with 8 guidelines published and 3 active Action Groups), the strategic outlook for the next 3 years shall focus on a robust plan to accelerate the deployment of robotic solutions at a pace that meets Asset Owners' needs, safety requirements, and value creation goals. - The leadership transition from Quasset (led by Tjibbe Bouma) to Chevron (represented by Mauricio Calva) marks a pivotal moment. With an asset owner at the helm, backed by Quasset’s expertise, provides the ideal perspective to drive progress forward. - Robots are delivering value. Equinor projects over $100M USD in annual savings through robotic deployment; Chevron has already avoided 725 weeks of exposure to risk (29,000 hours)—a clear demonstration of the tangible and undeniable benefits these technologies bring to safety and efficiency. - Collaboration at its peak. Asset owners and service providers shared the presentation stage, M&As took place “behind the scenes,” universities and R&D centers engaging with asset owners, robot builders, and integrators to advance existing platforms... ExxonMobil and SBM Offshore presented their results and a collaborative case involving performance tests with robotic technologies, both onshore and offshore. The sessions showcased key advancements, addressed existing performance gaps, and explored roadmaps to unlock greater value for asset owners. This video beautifully captures not only the event’s highlights but also the energy and collaboration that define this community. I had the chance to contribute with a few thoughts. Bringing the entire value chain together for a week enables an exponential exchange of experiences, knowledge, and ideas, all transformed into actionable plans for the industry. This is what drives transformation. #SprintRobotics #Robotics #SBMOffshore #AssetIntegrity

Thank you for excellent moderation of the session, Felipe Scofano, and for sharing these valuable insights. The journey we've been part of through the years with SPRINT is indeed going in a very good direction. We're also seeing AI-models becoming an increasingly more important part of the value proposition of I&M robotics to capture value from the vast amount of sensor data generated by the robots. I'm looking forward to being part of the next steps in combing AI, data and robotics to provide further value in I&M; e.g. making robots even easier to use through natural interaction interfaces, and, perhaps further ahead in time, enabling embodied AI and thus robots operating in a highly agile and efficient way in their environment.
