As a Board member of Diaspora për Shqipërinë e Lirë I have a unique perspective on what the diaspora can provide for their origin countries. As follows are provided several; Diaspora communities can bring significant value to their origin countries in various ways. Some examples of positive changes brought about by diaspora include: 1. **Investment**: Diaspora members often invest in businesses and infrastructure in their home countries, which can stimulate economic growth and create jobs. 2. **Knowledge transfer**: Many diaspora members bring back valuable skills, expertise, and knowledge that can help improve education, healthcare, technology, and other sectors in their origin countries. 3. **Philanthropy**: Diaspora communities frequently engage in philanthropic activities such as funding schools, healthcare facilities, and community projects in their home countries. 4. **Cultural exchange**: Diaspora communities help preserve and promote their cultural heritage, language, arts, and traditions, enriching the cultural landscape of both their host and origin countries. 5. **Diplomatic support**: Diaspora communities can serve as bridges between their origin and host countries, facilitating communication, cooperation, and understanding between the two. Overall, diaspora communities play a vital role in contributing to the development, prosperity, and cultural richness of their origin countries. What’s your perspective? Business in the blood 🩸. Or rather Entrepreneurship in the blood 🩸.

Four years ago, I wrote an article, which was published by The Standard Newspaper (May 17th, 2020), where I called on leaders and institutions to take steps to support and equip young people to rise as changemakers. I wrote about the obvious potential of young people to drive change not just within the broader socio-economic and political pillars. I averred that, as Ashoka, we know a thing or two from our experience working with leading social entrepreneurs solving for youth related challenges, on how to transform growing up, learning and work experience to allow young people to find their changemaking mojo for the common good of all. As I reflect on Ashoka's mission, and considering the wave of young people's activism being witnessed across Africa, emboldened by the outcome of June 25th moment in Kenya, I find myself asking: What more could we have done to move barriers for young people to engage fully on matters of public interest? What could those of us with greater responsibility- as parents, teachers, journalists, faith leaders, elders, business executives, civil society leaders, public servants, etc.- have done differently to create an environment where young people co-lead to define the present and the future? In the article, I emphasized that young people are not just the changemakers of tomorrow, they are changemakers of today. Africa is at a crucial moment where the decisions made about young people today will shape the future for young people for generations to come. The question we must all ask ourselves now is: Are we ready, prepared and equipped to do what it takes to support young people to practice changemaking for the common good of all early? The time to act is now, and the responsibility lies with each and every one of us. As we say in Swahili "Kama si sasa, ni saha hivi." Research proves that people with strong, diverse networks are healthier, happier, and wealthier than those who don't.....sign me up! So when I get asked why do you do #diaspora work, part of the answer is that it gives me strong, diverse networks globally and I know where that will lead with the right ideas and a little bit of luck! I learnt this about networks from the work of Kingsley and our colleagues at The Networking Institute. But just think about this for a second (and this is thanks to technology). Yesterday and today, I will have talked to some folks in my networks about different opportunities in #CapeVerde, #Egypt, #Georgia, #Moldova, and #Seychelles. Not all of these were #diasporaengagement or business related but diaspora engagement gave those networks to me and it is why I always try to give back to the networks that diaspora has given me. It is a duty to nourish those networks. After all, as the old saying goes, "the more you give, the more you get"......and that's not just on the wealth side, it is on the health and happiness side too. This is why I am so passionate about diaspora #philanthropy, I have seen it give people so much joy. So many people think the beneficiary of diaspora philanthropy is only the recipient of the support, I see it as the other way around - those who give benefit in such meaningful and often immeasurable ways. So this is a key reason why I do diaspora engagement - it makes people happier, healthier, and wealthier. And we are just getting started on how we can make diaspora engagement work to make those impacts open to everyone. Onwards.

Youth Support for Youthful Leaders: A Catalyst for Zambia's Progress Yesterday I had a good chat with my brother Vincent musilikani jr, the former and outgoing unzasu president about Zambia’’s political and leadership landscape and out of our discussions I picked a few points: As Zambia continues to navigate the complexities of development, one thing is clear: the country's youthful leaders are crucial to its success. However, these leaders can't do it alone as they need the support of their fellow youths. The importance of rallying behind youthful leaders cannot be overstated. These leaders bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Zambia's youth. By supporting them, young people can help create a brighter future for themselves and their country. Unfortunately, some youthful leaders have faced criticism and backlash from their peers. A prime example is PS Chama Fumba, popularly known as Pilato. Despite being appointed to a national leadership position, Pilato has been criticized by some youths for "selling out." However, a closer look at his work reveals that he has been using his office to support fellow youths and artists, demonstrating the positive impact that youthful leaders can have when given the opportunity. We need to rally behind him and support his efforts. So, why is it essential for us youths to rally behind our youthful leaders? By supporting youthful leaders, we the young people can ensure that our voices are heard and our concerns addressed. If you’ve had conversations with Ps jayson Chileshe,hon binwell Mpundu,hon Chris and Romeo Kang’ombe you will agree with me that Youthful leaders are often more open to new ideas and innovative solutions, which can help drive Zambia's development forward. By empowering youthful leaders, young people can help create a brighter future for ourselves and ourcountry. In conclusion, the support of youths is crucial for the success of Zambia's youthful leaders. By rallying behind our young leaders, we the young people can help drive positive change and create a better future for ourselves and their country. let's give them our support. 🚀 **Empowering Sudanese Women Entrepreneurs in Uganda** 🌍 As building networks and strengthening the sisterhood is part of our mission, our founder Mariam B M Nalumansi today had the privilege of speaking with a group of inspiring Sudanese sisters who are taking bold steps to establish businesses in Uganda. Their resilience and determination are truly remarkable. Here are a few key insights I shared with them: 1. **Understanding the Market**: It’s crucial to research and adapt to the local Ugandan market. Identifying gaps and tailoring products or services to local needs can be the key to success. 2. **Leveraging Unique Skills**: These women have rich cultural and culinary traditions that can be powerful assets. Turning their heritage into marketable products could set them apart. 3. **Building Networks**: I encouraged them to form alliances and actively engage with local communities. Networking with other entrepreneurs can open doors and create opportunities. 4. **Accessing Resources**: There are NGOs and local programs in Uganda designed to support sisters and women entrepreneurs. Tapping into these resources can provide essential support. 5. **Embracing Resilience**: These sisters have already overcome incredible challenges. Their journey has equipped them with the resilience needed to thrive in business. This experience reminded me of the incredible potential that lies within every woman, no matter the circumstances.
