Women’s health continues to be under-researched, under-funded and under-discussed. And the facts are under-whelming: 🔬 Women— and especially women of color— are underrepresented in clinical trials (which women weren’t even included in until 1993 🤯). 💵The conditions that affect women more than men receive less funding and attention. 🏥 As a result, women spend $15.4 billion more than men on out-of-pocket healthcare costs each year. (links in the comments for reference) I could spend an entire #WomensHealthWeek fuming about this reality. Instead, I will focus on the progress. Eva Epker cites PitchBook data in her Forbes piece: women’s health companies received 4.3% of the $26.5B VCs invested in generalist health and healthcare companies in 2023. Although this seems tiny, it is the largest percentage that women’s health companies have secured since 2018 and is 59% higher than in 2022. Biden’s Executive Order will further buoy this with $12 billion in new funding for women’s health research. Fertility and reproductive health continue to drive investment in this space, combined with greater attention on areas like menopausal health, pelvic health, endometriosis, and sexual and mental health. Vital work is being done, particularly in the women’s health tech market: ---Hera Biotech shared positive interim results for its non-surgical diagnostic test for endometriosis. ---Women-first tech developer Elvie released a report outlining the gaps in postpartum care in the U.S. --- Midi Health has raised $100M in funding for its virtual perimenopause and menopause care clinic. As communicators, we have an essential role in driving attention to the changemakers. What other women’s health tech companies are doing amazing things? #WomensHealth #Health #Healthtech #Biotech

True Fact: the adult diaper market is larger than the baby diaper market. While Urinary Incontinence is common it absolutely should not be normal or masked, which is insulting, demoralizing and just plain wrong. Urinary Incontinence can and should be treated. 👶 ✨ Recently, I’ve had a lot of heartfelt conversations with women that have confided in me about the difficulties they (or their friends) are experiencing while trying to conceive (TTC). The path to parenthood can be deeply personal—and increasingly complex. Fertility struggles are on the rise, fueled by shifting macro trends like postponing pregnancies, declining sperm counts, and falling testosterone levels. 😟 The stats don’t lie: 1️⃣ in 6️⃣ couples now face infertility, and lifestyle factors have exacerbated this issue, leading to rising miscarriage rates—about 1% per year in the U.S. 📈—and a global fertility decline of roughly 1% annually from 1960 to 2018. 📉 It’s my view that: we’re taught from a young age how NOT to get pregnant (thanks, high school sex ed 🙃), but we are woefully under equipped when it comes to understanding our bodies and the options we have when we DO want to start a family. Thankfully, companies like Modern Fertility, Mira, Bird&Be, and Conceive are stepping up, bringing accessible at-home testing, supplements, and expert guidance to the table. They’re putting the power of diagnostics and data—once locked behind clinic doors—into the hands of aspiring parents. 🧬 And the need for modern, inclusive, and non-judgmental solutions has never been greater. 🌱 One of our portfolio companies at XRC Ventures, Incora Health, is addressing this need with game-changing innovation: smart earrings. 💎 These stylish wearables don’t just monitor standard health metrics like heart rate 💓 and sleep 😴—they go further, analyzing your unique menstrual cycle and using AI to deliver personalized, actionable fertility insights. 🧠 By combining advanced tech with thoughtful design, Incora is empowering individuals to take control of their fertility journey—and their overall health. We’re proud to back companies like Incora that are transforming the fertility landscape and paving the way for the future of reproductive health! 📩 Are you building a CPG startup in parent-tech or women's health? Please message me - I’d love to see how I can help! 📔 This is one of the investment opportunities we talk about in our Q3 Report on Women’s Health.
