Headed to The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Summer Study conference? Don't miss the informal session on how the TECH Clean California initiative is using meter data to make building electrification programs more effective and equitable. Recurve's Carmen Best and Brian Gerke will join Teddy Kisch and Evan Kamei from Energy Solutions to discuss how meter-based targeting allows these programs to optimize outreach and maximize impact by finding the customers who are most likely to save on their bills. Session Title: Calling all heat pump professionals and electrification experts: What data-driven questions can we ask today to inform tomorrow? Tuesday, August 6, 2024 2:00-3:00 pm Toyon Room, Asilomar Conference Center TECH Clean California has installed tens of thousands of heat pumps and is now using a combination of customer meter data and project information to unlock a better understanding of the installation costs, grid impacts, and more. Come participate in this informal session to share insights and discuss the most important data analysis priorities that can shape the broader building electrification framework around the country. 📢 Secretary General Peter Vermaat yesterday the #HeatPumpForum organised by the European Heat Pump Association ⚡He gave his contribution to the panel ‘Heat Pumps in Electrification and Grid Action Plan’, pointing out the role of #HeatPumps in energy transition and their impact for #DSOs. Some key takeouts: ✍ Peter highlighted that Heat Pumps are one of the three main drivers for future grid use, along with #ElectricVehicles (EVs) and #RooftopSolar. For DSOs, this presents two major challenges, namely expanding and smartening the grid. However, the perspective for DSOs is only one: empowering #consumers to play their part in accelerating energy transition. Peter touched on key actions from the Grid Action Plan (GAP) related to Heat Pumps, including: ✅ Advancing #DNDPs to improve grid planning and address upscaling challenges across the value chain. ✅ Boosting the adoption of digital technologies to optimise grid management. ✅ Preparing for anticipatory investments and ensuring all DSOs, large and small, have access to the necessary funding. Heat Pumps play therefore a key role in #electrification and are essential for achieving the goals of the #GridActionPlan. They indeed support the transition to a cleaner and more resilient #electricgrid. 👏 Thank you Paul Kenny for inviting us, thank you Andreas Graf, Leonardo Meeus, Kristian Ruby, Walburga Hemetsberger for the nice dialogue! #HPForum #HeatRight #HeatPumps #Sustainableheating #electrification #DSOs #Energytransition #KnowledgeSharing #EuropeanCommission #DSOinfrastructure

New project to optimise industrial #heatpumps using natural refrigerants. Researchers from KTH Royal Institute of Technology will develop heat exchangers that minimise refrigerant charge – while maintaining high thermal performance. Project leader Jens Fridh hopes that the project can play a major role in eliminating fossil fuels in Europe's district heating sector. The project will develop and optimise large heat pumps using natural refrigerants for district heating, district cooling and industrial applications. In addition, the project will find heat exchanger solutions for heat pumps with natural refrigerants to minimise the amount of refrigerant while maintaining high thermal performance. A third objective is to build a test bed for the development of compressors relevant to natural refrigerants. “Sweden's export potential with the technology for large heat pump systems is great, very great, says Jens Fridh. “The technology has existed here since the 1980s and there is a great deal of knowledge about design and operation, especially in the three industries involved in the project.” Funded by the Swedish Energy Agency the project will run from end of 2024 until end of 2028. A project in close collaboration with industrial partners Siemens Energy, Alfa Laval and Stockholm Exergi. #heatexchanger #naturalrefrigerant #energy
