Let's rethink the how, not the cow. This is why I think meat tax addresses the wrong problem. Denmark has introduced the world’s first carbon tax on animal agriculture, a policy that may not support a socially just and inclusive food system transition. In my World Economic Forum op-ed, I advocate for responsible policies that address the rising demand for animal protein during times of resource scarcity, while avoiding punishing farmers or consumers. It's vital to facilitate practices that require fewer and better-managed animals: we recommend promoting regenerative smallholder farming alongside new production systems such as cellular agriculture, precision fermentation, and algal production. I fear that Denmark's tax does not efficiently promote these goals. Learn more about my position in the full op-ed you can find via the link in the comments below.

Earlier this year, I completed a manuscript about the four years Wendy and I spent farming in France. No luck finding an agent yet, but I'm happy to share that The Ecological Citizen has chosen to publish a chapter from my manuscript in its 2025 issue! The excerpt is called "Beautiful, Ugly Fields" and discusses my experience raising cattle in a regenerative system. https://lnkd.in/e--gBzky

We need to be loud and proud of Agriculture in Australia. We need to understand the currency of our ag stories, what we do, how we are improving practises and share these stories to improve the perception of agriculture. Depending on our past experiences, our beliefs and perceptions, what we have been taught, whether we are positively or negatively focussed, and soooooo much more……. EVERYONE views agriculture through a different lens. And this lens is constantly changing. At Agrishots, we are passionate about opening people’s eyes and minds to as many aspects of farming in Australia as we can, by sharing great success stories of hard working, innovative farming families.

🎉 Already 10 years and counting, I work for IBMA - International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association to make the voice of the Biocontrol industry stronger and stronger. For more biocontrol solutions for farmers as soon as possible, for a sustainable resilient and productive agriculture. Challenges are clear, we need to continue to work on them together to make more products available on the market via a proportionate regulatory framework. The future is biocontrol and that is why IBMA also brings people ''boots-on-the-ground'' for them to see it and listen to farmers' unvaluable experiences. #biocontrol #biocontrolmatters #workingwithnature
🌱 In his hearing Christophe Hansen, Commissioner-designate for Agriculture and Food, said he wants to be a “boots-on-the-ground” commissioner, and ”use every opportunity to visit farms and farmers in Member States.” 👩🌾 We therefore invite him to join us on our field trip in 2025 to hear from farmers using biocontrol. 🎞️ This clip from a soon-to be released short film is a snapshot of our 2024 field trip in Belgium and the Netherlands.

This winter the Assessment Resource Center’s Research & Evaluation team is supporting researchers from the McQuinn Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and University of Missouri Center for Regenerative Agriculture in administering a statewide survey of Missouri Century Farms (farms owned by the same family for 100 years or more). With the ongoing decline in the number of U.S. farms and an aging farmer population, it is crucial to understand what contributes to the longevity of century farms in Missouri. Results will produce recommendations for better support and training for family farms. The McQuinn Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership is proud to collaborate with the Assessment Resource Center - University of Missouri and the University of Missouri Center for Regenerative Agriculture on a statewide survey of Missouri’s Century Farms, family farms owned and operated for over 100 years. With over 8,000 farms holding this designation in Missouri alone, our research focuses on uncovering the entrepreneurial and market-driven factors contributing to their resilience, performance, and sustainability. Insights from this study will help us develop targeted programs to strengthen and support Missouri's family farms for future generations. #EntrepreneurialLeadership #CenturyFarms #MissouriAgriculture #Resilience #Sustainability #FamilyFarms

📣Calling All Farmers – We Want to Hear From You! A farmer survey focusing on the knowledge and communication needs of farmers has been launched. This survey has been collaboratively developed by the AKIS Coordination Group (Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine , Agricultural Consultants Association, Teagasc and CAP Network Ireland) to better understand the current needs of farmers in relation to how they currently source knowledge and information. Results will be used to inform AKIS actors to help ensure a well-functioning Irish AKIS that connects people and facilitates knowledge flows between research, cooperation and advisory services and is more responsive to the growing information needs of farmers, rural economy actors, advisors, researchers and other food system & bioeconomy stakeholders.
