Criminalising young children does not prevent crime or make communities safer. While this is often misunderstood, the evidence is clear: providing support that addresses the causes of behaviour would achieve better outcomes for children and promote community safety. The NSW Government should do better for children and communities by being guided by evidence and:  - Investing in services in our communities that prevent crime from the start.  - Funding targeted services and interventions that help children learn to be accountable.  - Resourcing and supporting Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations to provide local responses for First Nations young people.  - Raising the age of criminal responsibility to at least 14 without exception #RaiseTheAge #JailingIsFailing

“What I see is that there was a broad range of affordable housing available to my mother, and that’s not what we’re seeing today. We don’t see folks building entry-level affordable housing, we’re no longer building public housing, and when we do see tax credit deals, which I think is the backbone of affordable housing in this nation, oftentimes those tax credit deals are in concentrated areas of poverty, because that’s where the cheapest land is. And so, we have set up a system that doesn’t necessarily support a broad range of affordable housing.” Such a great conversation with David Dworkin of National Housing Conference on Beyond Four Walls about creating comprehensive, community-oriented solutions to the housing crisis. Had the privilege of participating in the Cork South Central Community Safety Forum earlier this week, hosted by Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí & An Garda Síochána. From discussions on sub-standard housing to tackling drug use and the concerning presence of drug paraphernalia, it's evident that collaborative efforts are needed to address these challenges effectively. Every member of our community deserves safe and healthy living conditions, and it's imperative that we work together to ensure no one is left behind. Additionally, the lack of police presence highlighted during the forum emphasises the importance of enhancing community policing efforts. Building trust and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and residents is key to creating safer neighbourhoods. Moreover, it's crucial to recognise the impact of social determinants of health on our community's wellbeing. Factors like housing quality, the built environment, and socio-economic status significantly influence health outcomes. By addressing these determinants, we can strive towards a healthier, more equitable future for all. I hope to continue to advocate for positive change and work collaboratively towards building a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community! 💪🏽🏡 #CommunitySafety #PublicHealth #Advocacy #Collaboration #SocialJustice

It has been a privilege to work on this campaign while at The Shape Agency. It has shown me how alternatives to incarceration are significantly more effective at reducing crime and reoffending than prisons. When communities are in charge they build programs that work, keep offenders accountable and break the cycle. Community helping community means people are better supported to turn their lives around, which means a safer community for all of us. Groote Eylandt once had the highest crime rate in the NT. Local leaders came together to establish the community-led law and justice group under the Anindilyakwa Land Council which has helped to reduce crime by 95%. The knowledge of what works and what’s best for community lies in community. Amplifying those voices and better supporting programs that work is key to breaking the cycle.

QUESTION Will the NEW state government of Queensland continue with the immobiliser trial in 2025? ANSWER: The Queensland government has announced plans to expand the immobiliser trial statewide 2025. This follows the success of the initial trial in Cairns, Townsville, and Mount Isa. The statewide expansion aims to reduce car thefts further and improve community safety.
