Empowering the Frontline: The Gender Case for Investing in Community Health 🌍 Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Sub-Saharan Africa, over 70% of whom are women, are the backbone of primary healthcare. They bridge the gap between health systems and communities, playing a crucial role in improving maternal and child health, combating infectious diseases, and addressing gender-based violence (GBV). Despite their invaluable contributions, CHWs face systemic barriers such as inadequate pay, lack of formal recognition, and gender-based harassment. 🌍 Community Health Workers (CHWs) are The Unsung Heroes in Gender Based Violence Response. Meet Salome Ong'or and Juliah Wairimu, two dedicated CHWs from Kenya making a difference in the fight against GBV. CHWs play a critical role in: ✅ Helping survivors find reporting mechanisms. ✅ Providing counseling and attending to physical injuries. ✅ Raising awareness in communities to prevent GBV. 💬 "We need to strengthen facilities and provide training so survivors can access the care they need," says Juliah. Gender-based violence affects everyone—including men.
