We're looking for Scottish companies that could be involved in the development of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) sector to complete a short survey designed to gather insights about awareness, capabilities and interest in CCUS opportunities and challenges in accessing the market. The survey is being conducted for Scottish Enterprise by Optimat Ltd and takes only 10-15 minutes to complete. Wood is leading a Joint Industry Partnership (JIP) to develop industry guidelines for CO2 specifications aimed at accelerating Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) projects. The global consulting and engineering firm’s guidelines focus on the impact of impurities in CO2 throughout the CCUS value chain. “We are proud to contribute to the industry by sharing these guidelines for setting CO2 specifications. CCUS will undoubtedly play a crucial role in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors,” said Azad Hessamodini, Executive President for Consulting at Wood. “These guidelines will support the safe and effective design of projects while minimising operational risks. This collaborative effort made possible through invaluable input from our clients and research partners represents a significant step forward in developing CCUS practices knowledge across our industry.” The JIP includes a range of industry leaders such as aramco, Equinor, Fluxys, Gassco AS, Harbour Energy, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Net Zero Technology Centre, OMV, PETRONAS, Shell, and TotalEnergies. It also involves industry and research experts like DNV, Heriot-Watt University, IFE, NGI A/S, NPL Construction Co., and TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory (NEL), with support from various licensors and equipment suppliers. The guidelines aim to establish a CO2 conditioning standard that addresses safety, environmental, technical, and operational requirements, thereby supporting the growth of the CCUS sector. #cleanenergy

A front-end engineering design (FEED) contract has been signed by bp, after their agreement over a statement of principles was finalised with the UK Government. A new methodology for certifying carbon dioxide removals (CDRs) through bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) has been officially validated by DNV. Developed jointly by Drax and Stockholm Exergi, the methodology adheres to ISO14064-2 standards, ensuring precise measurement and verification of net carbon removals. This validation is set to bolster confidence in the reliability and transparency of carbon credits within the voluntary market.

#TriviaTuesday: How is the US progressing in #decarbonizing its #industrial sector? Emissions from the industrial sector account for roughly 23% of domestic #greenhousegas emissions. Recent federal investments and policies aimed at industrial decarbonization have made significant progress toward addressing these emissions, including investments in #carboncapture and storage (#CCS). These include: -California and the Pacific Northwest have announced projects to advance low-carbon manufacturing, #hydrogen, and #CCS for industrial decarbonization, especially in the #cement and #glass sectors. -Numerous projects in the Gulf Coast have been proposed and awarded in Texas and Louisiana toward decarbonizing #chemicals, #refining, #steel, #iron, and #pulp and #paper manufacturing via #CCS. In addition to project-specific funding, last week the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $44.5 million in funding for nine university and industry-led regional partnerships to advance commercial-scale #CCS across the US through the Regional Initiative for Technical Assistance Partnerships (RITAP) program.
