Looking to improve your pharmacy's efficiency, but still trying to figure out where to start? Here are the top three ways community pharmacies can improve their efficiency: 1️⃣ Conduct an efficiency audit. Before you make any changes, it’s a good idea to see how your services, processes, and workflows are currently operating. Get your team involved in the process, and ask them questions such as: 👉 Are there services that are generating unexpectedly high levels of customer complaints? 👉 Are there any ongoing stock and inventory management issues? What’s causing them? 👉 Is the current PMR software fit for purpose? Does it have the functionality you need now and for delivering services in the future? Once you’ve identified specific inefficiencies, you can seek a solution. 2️⃣ Take control of your inventory Unless you have complete real-time visibility of your stock, you’ll encounter many inefficiencies. This could be anything from not being aware of which items are selling quickly, over or under-stocking them, or having too much “dead stock”, as customers failed to pick up a repeat prescription. Better inventory management can save you significant amounts of money and improve time management and customer service. 3️⃣ Optimise the layout of your pharmacy Have you ever stopped to think about how changing the layout of your pharmacy can lead to more productive use of staff time and increased sales? Start by analysing what happens when a pharmacist dispenses a prescription. Do they have all the tools they need close at hand?
