Learning a language is HARD. Learning two new languages is even HARDER. This is a summary of my Duolingo journey this year... - Top 1% learner (working hard!) - 2500+ MISTAKES made (resilience!) - 1136 day streak (showing up every day!) - 100+ hours spent learning Spanish (rule of 10,000!) Also brushing up on my Arabic with Tuba Arshad and hoping to be back to reasonable fluency soon! To all my friends... I wish you all the best for an amazing holiday season, and a wonderful 2025. Lots of love y'all. Keep grinding. And stay frosty!

SHALINI SINHA this needs your attention! I love how consistency and "mistakes made" are part of tracked metrics. Nothing new can be learned without making mistakes; highlighting those as an accomplishment is a brilliant way of shifting the shame our education systems breed into us. Love it!!

Inspiring

I’m at about 1/4 of your journey and feel the same way. It’s such a good habit to get into to have your brain change contexts like this (especially for the type of thinking we do day in and day out). Hopefully we can rendezvous in a warm Spanish speaking country soon. Hablamos con cafe leche 😜

I didn't know I knew Korean till I saw a show with no subs and understood half of it. And I've spent so much efforts on Japanese as well. And for both of these, I learnt the most through reality shows. These apps help for sure but the shows like this are where the most conversational part of the language happens. Makes it very very easy. You're one cool guy, Omar!

Omar Abedin 📌 Learning multiple languages at once is no small feat, and your consistency and resilience are truly inspiring. It’s a perfect example of how persistence, even in the face of mistakes, leads to mastery. Your journey also highlights the importance of continuous effort, even when the path gets tough.
