At the Rochester Regional Health Leadership Summit, Carmine D’Angelo and I presented a poster update on the ICU Nursing Shift Note. Last fall, we gave a presentation on the background, development & implementation of the standardized note template. Recently, we surveyed our CTICU providers where the majority agreed or strongly agreed that the note was beneficial, informed patient care, and contributed to other initiatives such as reduced device utilization. Looking at the data since implementation of the standardized note, we did see that CVC and Foley utilization rates have consistently trended downward in the CTICU. This project highlights the innovative use of existing resources to meet regulatory requirements for nurses while improving communication between disciplines, in a way that decreases workload for both providers and nurses while improving patient care. #EvolveCareGrowthForDelivery #RelentlessFocusOnQualityAndSafety #UnleashThePowerOfOurPeople #StrengthenOurCommunities

A Becker's article about one systems test to try and share the responsivity of patient care and involve RN's and NP/PA's more in the interaction in the hospital. Makes sense to me.... if this model grows, the need for Advanced Practice professionals will grow... and as you know, NP's and PA's fall under Locums. This is why Locums will grow at the faster rate than nursing. Under this system, a registered nurse manages the initial triage, while an APP serves as an "inboxologist." "We piloted an inbox model where in-basket messages — phone calls, patient advice requests, prescription requests, second-level triage requests, all of the MyChart messages that were coming in — would actually be triaged in two ways," Dr. Inman said.  "First of all, by an RN with clinical competency that would kind of scrub things, and anything that needed to go to a provider would then go to an APP pool. Staffing Guidelines. In a recent article published in AACN Advanced Critical Care, the collaborative efforts of L.A. County Department of Health Services (DHS) hospitals were highlighted as they worked together to develop unit-specific guidelines for staffing critically ill patients. The hospitals involved in this initiative, including Harbor UCLA, Los Angeles General Medical Center, Olive View Medical Center, and Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, recognized the need for standardized staffing ratios when patients require 1:1 nursing care.
