MycoWorks’ revolutionary biomaterial made from mycelium, Reishi, is the future of sustainable design. This year, seven artists crafted pieces of furniture out of Reishi on display at Design Miami Paris, from desks and lighting fixtures to folding screens and side tables. A dramatic tapestry made of 500 sheets of Reishi is also now the centerpiece at Denver’s Populus hotel (Aparium Hotel Group) and Ligne Roset has engaged in a long term commitment to produce a future collection made out of Reishi. Here's a snapshot: 🔴 Lombardini22’s brainy approach made pavilion navigation intuitively shorter – efficiency meets design. 🔴 David Lynch's A Thinking Room immersed us in a mystic union of film and furniture, proving every interior detail counts. 🔴 A culinary-design fusion at the kitchen biennale drew us into the future of natural ingredients (Pro tip: don't go on an empty stomach!). 🔴 The bathroom exhibit Under the Surface rippled our thoughts about water's fragility and its environmental impact. 🔴 And Samsung's AI-powered oven redefined cooking, promising a glance into a smarter future. Kengo Kuma has revealed a stunning pair of Christmas trees crafted from timber components that will eventually be transformed into furniture. The trees, named "Kigumi" and "Komorebi," are designed for the Tokyo Edition hotels in Toranomon and Ginza. On the second day featuring the Salone del Mobile Milano, as captured by Louis Berger, we explore this year's standout furniture design trends. A resurgence of bold, playful colors marked a vibrant shift from the past dominance of beige, bringing an eclectic and adventurous flair to the designs. While natural tones remain popular, the increased use of vivid colors across various applications was notable. Moreover, the trend towards more compact furniture designs is gaining traction. These smaller, adaptable pieces are ideal for the evolving needs of multi-use spaces, emphasizing both functionality and style. At Milan Furniture Fair 2024, furniture that serves dual purposes, can be reconfigured, and caters to the demands of the hospitality industry showcased how form and function are seamlessly integrating in contemporary design. In 2010, Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón founded MUT Design . Today, the Spanish studio is recognised worldwide. They define their design as emotional, intended to move, amuse and engage the user. They are also committed to sustainability, and their products are designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Their installations, such as ‘Das Haus’, designed for IMM Cologne 2020, and ‘Valencia Pavilion’, created for the Madrid Design Festival 2021, are a clear example of their success at both national and international level.
