A successful Local Innovation Forum hosted by our Irish partner from Munster Technological University! 🌊 After fruitful Local Innovation Forums in Spain (Leartibai Fundazioa) and France (Technopole Quimper-Cornouaille & Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique), it was Ireland's turn to host this event as part of the #FISHINN project. 📆On 5th December, from 10 am to 1 pm, a diverse group of representatives from local government, the county council, enterprises, cooperatives, fishers, vessel owners, and stakeholders in blue tourism and the blue economy gathered to discuss the challenges, resources, and opportunities within Ireland’s fisheries ecosystem and value chain. This Local Innovation Forum was the occasion to foster collaboration between stakeholders while preparing for an upcoming field trip to Quimper, Brittany. 🚢✨ 👉 The response was overwhelmingly positive, with 12 delegates already signed up for the visit! Moreover, our Irish partner is exploring future funding opportunities to launch small-scale projects inspired by best practices from European partners, focusing on: ✅ Sustainable tourism ✅ Digitalisation and innovation ✅ Product processing and diversification ✅ Blue biotechnology ✅ Circular economy Delegates expressed strong interest in learning how other regions manage marine protected areas, ocean health, and species conservation. 🌍🐟 This initiative highlights the significance of collaboration in building resilient, innovative, and sustainable blue economies across Europe. 💙 #BlueInnovation #BlueEconomy #FISHINN #Collaboration #Brittany

Last week, REN & RGI co-hosted a workshop with 40 participants from 12 countries in Porto, Portugal, uniting experts to explore approaches to Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) 🌳 The event combined discussions on practical applications with field visits to active projects that enhance species protection 🐝, mitigate fire risks 🔥 & create benefits for local people. Day 1 featured an excursion to two remarkable sites: one showcasing how REN is supporting endangered Garrano horses by harnessing their appetite for vegetation around power lines 🐴 and the other focused on revitalising the heritage Ermelo orange with local communities 🍊. These projects #IntegrateNature by reducing forest fire risks, supporting biodiversity, and fostering long-term regional benefits through collaborations with NGOs and local municipalities. Day 2 gave participants from 21 organisations the chance to share their own work, hear about innovation in biodiversity monitoring, fire prevention and bird protection, featured helped to identify priorities for the working group in the coming year.👷🧑🏾💻 A special thanks to REN for co-hosting and to all participants for sharing their practices! Ecoducts have become a part of animals' life in Estonia 🛣️ Riding from Tallinn to Tartu, I noticed that the highway has these interesting structures on both sides 👀 The ones I mostly saw were simple tunnels that allowed the animals to traverse underground. But fancier ones like in the picture below allow animals to move above the highway, and we have some of those too 🏞️ Estonia's Transport Administration conducted research in 2020-2022 and confirmed that since introducing ecoducts in 2013, animals have adjusted to use them more and more every year 💚 It's great to see successful projects like these improve the lives of everyone, human and otherwise 🦊 🦔 🦌 #sustainability #ecoducts #nature #ecosystem

We're revitalising rural Extremadura - Our Flagship is strategically located in Hervás. A small town in the north that requires a specific approach towards rural development, and Natac (BME: NAT) is taking the lead! Our project SUSTAINEXT, we undertake a multifaceted approach to foster rural development. This includes combatting depopulation and addressing demographic challenges by generating new green jobs and fostering the settlement of young populations in rural regions. Also, we contribute to the area's economic advancement by facilitating new business opportunities within the primary sector (agriculture). Moreover, we actively work towards attracting investments and enhancing the international visibility of local industries. SUSTAINEXT project transcends being merely a project; it serves as a model for sustainable rural development, setting a precedent for similar initiatives in other regions.
