📍 ASCAME PROJECTS I ECO CRUISING FUTOUR, the EU co-funded project launched in September 2022 to exploit the green and blue potential of West Mediterranean tourism SMEs, successfully concluded last December, marking a significant milestone in sustainable cruise tourism development across the West Mediterranean region. 💡 The power of collaboration and innovation lay at the heart of the project's success. Combining technology, environmental expertise, and community-driven strategies, this flagship initiative launched by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) and coordinated by X23 - The Innovation Bakery, has set a new standard for responsible cruising, targeting Gen Z and Millennials. 📝 The project's final dissemination event was held in the recent Sun&Blue Congress framework, in Almería (Spain). Last week, REN & RGI co-hosted a workshop with 40 participants from 12 countries in Porto, Portugal, uniting experts to explore approaches to Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) 🌳 The event combined discussions on practical applications with field visits to active projects that enhance species protection 🐝, mitigate fire risks 🔥 & create benefits for local people. Day 1 featured an excursion to two remarkable sites: one showcasing how REN is supporting endangered Garrano horses by harnessing their appetite for vegetation around power lines 🐴 and the other focused on revitalising the heritage Ermelo orange with local communities 🍊. These projects #IntegrateNature by reducing forest fire risks, supporting biodiversity, and fostering long-term regional benefits through collaborations with NGOs and local municipalities. Day 2 gave participants from 21 organisations the chance to share their own work, hear about innovation in biodiversity monitoring, fire prevention and bird protection, featured helped to identify priorities for the working group in the coming year.👷🧑🏾💻   A special thanks to REN for co-hosting and to all participants for sharing their practices! Last month, REN ⚡ and Renewables Grid Initiative ⚡ hosted a workshop in Porto, Portugal, bringing together 40 experts from 12 countries to discuss Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM). The event combined talks and field visits to projects focused on species protection, fire prevention, and community benefits. Day 1 included visits to projects supporting endangered Garrano horses and revitalizing the Ermelo orange, both of which demonstrate how #IntegrateNature can reduce fire risks, protect biodiversity, and benefit local communities. Day 2 featured discussions on biodiversity monitoring, fire prevention, and bird protection, and helped to identify priorities for the working group. Ecoducts have become a part of animals' life in Estonia 🛣️ Riding from Tallinn to Tartu, I noticed that the highway has these interesting structures on both sides 👀 The ones I mostly saw were simple tunnels that allowed the animals to traverse underground. But fancier ones like in the picture below allow animals to move above the highway, and we have some of those too 🏞️ Estonia's Transport Administration conducted research in 2020-2022 and confirmed that since introducing ecoducts in 2013, animals have adjusted to use them more and more every year 💚 It's great to see successful projects like these improve the lives of everyone, human and otherwise 🦊 🦔 🦌 #sustainability #ecoducts #nature #ecosystem

We're revitalising rural Extremadura - Our Flagship is strategically located in Hervás. A small town in the north that requires a specific approach towards rural development, and Natac (BME: NAT) is taking the lead!  Our project SUSTAINEXT, we undertake a multifaceted approach to foster rural development. This includes combatting depopulation and addressing demographic challenges by generating new green jobs and fostering the settlement of young populations in rural regions. Also, we contribute to the area's economic advancement by facilitating new business opportunities within the primary sector (agriculture). 🌊✨ Exciting Progress in Marine Conservation! ✨🌊 We are thrilled to share the Bioarmonia modules installation video at El Meco, Cancún, a significant milestone in advancing marine ecosystem restoration and eco-tourism. Bioarmonia made with Net-Zero AragoReef is an innovative project that integrates science, sustainability, and design to create underwater habitats that support coral regeneration and enhance biodiversity. These modules not only restore coral reefs but also offer underwater interpretative trails, fostering awareness and education for 4,500 eco-tourists everyday. Key Benefits of Bioarmonia at El Meco: 🌱 Coral Regeneration: Providing a foundation for coral growth, contributing to reef resilience. 🐠 Biodiversity Boost: Creating habitats for marine species, enhancing the local marine ecosystem. 🌍 Eco-Tourism Potential: Establishing Cancún as a leader in sustainable marine tourism. 💧 Community Engagement: Promoting environmental awareness and stewardship among locals and visitors alike. This installation is part of RAC's commitment to creating Net-Zero and Nature-Positive solutions aligned with global sustainability goals, including the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Developed by the NGO Reef Aquaculture Conservancy (RAC) through the Blue Ocean Credits Program (BOCP), this project accelerates coastal decarbonization efforts across the Mesoamerican Reef System, with support from the Net Zero Research Fund 2022 and 2023 from the Climate Change Center of Excellence, Scotiabank Canada. We extend our gratitude to all partners, stakeholders, and the local community for making this project a reality. Together, we are ensuring that marine ecosystems thrive for generations to come.
