By celebrating the successes of other nonprofits, we can both empower the entire nonprofit community and unlock valuable lessons to enhance our own impact. The Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) is a beacon in the fight against hunger in Chicago. Since its founding in 1979, GCFD has been a pivotal force in distributing food to pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other programs, addressing both immediate food needs and the root causes of food insecurity. Here's an overview of GCFD's key strategies and impact: - Innovative Partnerships: Collaborates with local farmers, grocery stores, and food manufacturers to rescue and distribute surplus food. - Community Programs: Operates mobile food pantries, soup kitchens, and nutrition education initiatives to reach those most in need. - Advocacy and Education: Advocates for policies to address hunger’s root causes and educates families on nutrition and food budgeting. - Workforce Development: Offers job training programs to help individuals gain skills in the foodservice industry. Now take a look at their incredible results: - Distributed over 80 million pounds of food in 2023, providing 66 million meals. - Improved health outcomes through partnerships with healthcare providers. - Helped many secure stable employment through job training programs. GCFD’s holistic approach is creating lasting change in the community. Let their success inspire innovative strategies in your nonprofit! #NonprofitLeadership #CommunityImpact #InspirationalStories #FoodSecurity #Chicago #OrganizedSynergy

National Food Bank Day was established to recognize food banks' vital role in fighting hunger nationwide. The first Friday of September is set aside to honor these critical organizations and to raise awareness about food insecurity. Van Hengel's innovative idea, sparked by the potential of recovering surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants, revolutionized the landscape of food outreach. His system, which swiftly collected and distributed food to those in need, gained rapid momentum, leading to the establishment of numerous food banks nationwide. This is a testament to the transformative power of a single idea. Here in Tucson, we're fortunate to have outstanding local food banks making a difference in our communities every day: ●The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona: serving Tucson & beyond, CFBSA offers a range of vital resources. These include food distribution, nutrition education, and advocacy, all aimed at alleviating food insecurity and promoting a healthier community. ●ICS (Interfaith Community Services): Offering food assistance & other supportive services to help individuals and families in need. ●Marana Community Food Bank: A branch of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, focusing on providing food and resources to those in the Marana area. Food banks in the U.S. distribute millions of pounds of food to families in need every year, making a huge impact on fighting hunger nationwide. National Food Bank Day is the perfect time to support your local food bank. Your help goes a long way, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy; together, we thrive! #tarsocial #tucsonrealtors #TARYPN #trcfsocial #tardiversity #tucsonarizona #realestate #realtorlife #deiwecare #diversitymatters #allwelcome #deiallwelcome #NationalFoodBankDay

Appreciate Crystal Edmonson and Atlanta Business Chronicle spotlighting the extraordinary level of demand for food assistance that we're seeing right now across metro Atlanta and North Georgia. In June, 250,000 households visited food pantries affiliated with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. That's about 12% of our total population that went to a pantry to get food in the month of June. We're moving more food than we ever have - more than 500,000 lbs of food a day - and it's not enough. Driven by inflation, housing costs and healthcare costs, the economic pressure on low- and moderate-income families is intense, urgent and unsustainable. The Food Bank of course needs community support to continue responding aggressively. But we also need policy solutions that get more resources to these families and alleviate some of that pressure: * We need Congress to pass a Farm Bill that supports farmers and increases resources for families and food banks * We need Congress to pass the expanded Child Tax Credit, which would support more than 600,000 kids in Georgia * We need Georgia to opt into the Summer EBT program to provide additional resources to kids on free/reduced lunch while they're out of school * We need lawmakers at all levels to listen to constituents and realize how many of our neighbors are struggling right now ... and then make expanding resources for these families a top priority. In the meantime, we'll be working hard with all of you to get our neighbors the food they need. https://lnkd.in/gpYG7HgH https://lnkd.in/gZGGZDW2

In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive. For nearly 50 years, GrowNYC’s Greenmarket program has been the heart of New York City’s connection to farm-fresh food and community. It all started in 1976 with one mission: support struggling regional farms and bring local food to New Yorkers. But Greenmarkets have grown to be so much more—they’re vibrant ‘third places’ where diverse communities come together! ✨ What’s a ‘third place’? It’s an informal gathering spot, neither home nor work, where people connect and build community. That’s exactly what our Greenmarkets do—fostering interaction, creating neutral spaces, and nurturing a sense of belonging through the shared love of fresh, local produce. GrowNYC’s impact today: We work with over 200 regional producers on 45+ Greenmarkets across the 5 boroughs. Greenmarkets are also crucial in addressing food insecurity and promoting equitable access to fresh food by accepting nutrition benefits like EBT, OTC, and more. At every market, we’re building bridges: between farmers and city residents, between communities and fresh food, and between neighbors. Together, we’re supporting local agriculture, combating food insecurity, and protecting farmland for future generations. If you love GrowNYC, please support our work by making a donation. I recently visited a local food bank. It is a food bank that picks up produce at a local grocery store. They used to pickup meats near expiration too. They have freezers and as an under-supplied, overburdened food bank, the need is definitely present. In the last six months the same grocery store stopped discounting meats to 50% and started only discounting them to 30%. I know for a fact this has led to greater discard of expired meat. They no longer allow the food bank to pick up near expiration meats. People who wouldn’t be able to afford those foods in the first place, imaginary profits and losses that never existed are their “reasoning” for throwing food away instead. People in need are not the enemy. People in need aren’t hoarding their money greedily and eagerly waiting at the donation doors. The (potential) merger of Albertsons and Fred Meyer terrifies me. They’re already coordinating their sales to justify “see we’re competing with each other and will keep doing so if you let us merge” What all shoppers have realized? Their prices were heavily inflated since first word of this merger to allow “sales” that don’t lose them a penny. Grocery prices are already unattainable for many and only worsening.

In the case of all social good movements - it's grassroots organizations banding together and communities supporting one another that is going to shift cultural attitudes. At Replate, we think of other nonprofit FROs as potential collaborators, not our competition! A rising tide lifts all ships! Dear LinkedIn Family, Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 To everyone celebrating today, I wish you joy, love, and gratitude as you gather with your loved ones. Thanksgiving is about gratitude, togetherness, and making a meaningful impact. But let’s pause and think for a moment: What if this Thanksgiving, we take a bold step beyond usual? Let’s commit—not just to be thankful—but to take action. On an individual level, let’s pledge to avoid food waste. And nationally, let’s advocate for policies that truly make a difference. Here’s an idea: “Incentivize restaurants and hotels with tax breaks for distributing leftover food.” ♻️ Every year, billions of tons of food go to waste while millions go to bed hungry. Imagine the change we could create if businesses were rewarded for feeding people in need. This policy wouldn’t just fight hunger; it would foster community involvement and reduce food waste on a grand scale. As we share this special meal with family and friends, let’s take a moment to think of those who don’t have that privilege. Let’s support organizations tirelessly working to end hunger around the globe. Your donation, no matter how small, can make a big difference. 🙌 Here’s to appreciate the heroes fighting hunger every day around the world 🌎 1) UNICEF 2) World Food Programme 3) The Hunger Project 4) Feed the Children 5) The Akshaya Patra Foundation 6) Saylani Welfare International Trust Official 7) JDC Foundation Pakistan 8) World Central Kitchen 9) Chhipa Welfare Association® 10) Bread for the World 11) Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA 12) Feeding America 13) Meals on Wheels America 14) City Harvest 15) Food Recovery Network Add more such wonderful organizations in the comments below! Let’s amplify their efforts, give them the appreciation they deserve, and ensure they reach more hearts and hands ready to help. This Thanksgiving, let’s turn gratitude into a greater purpose. Together, we can work toward a world where no one goes hungry. What’s one way you’re giving back today? Drop your thoughts below and let’s inspire each other! 👇 To save food, the people, and our planet. #Thanksgiving2024 #GratitudeEveryday #GivingThanks #ThankfulHeart #CommunityMatters #EndHungerNow #ZeroHunger #NoFoodWaste #FeedTheWorld #FoodSecurity #HungerRelief #BeTheChange #MakeADifference #ActNow #AdvocateForGood #ImpactfulChange #PolicyMatters #SocialJustice #FoodPolicy #AdvocateForImpact #SustainableChange #DonateToday #SupportNonprofits #CharityWork #NonprofitHeroes #GivingBack #LeadershipInAction #LinkedInCommunity #FutureForward #SocialImpactLeadership #HolidayGiving #SeasonOfThanks #GratefulGiving
