Take a course, go for a training, watch videoes and gain fresh insights. Know where your job role is going. It may actually be on its way out. - Driverless cars are here already so that job role will be out some day. Cars without drivers have been tested successfully even on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria and other locations. - Managing people for example is evolving. The roles are getting deeper and wider. You now need to know the business and the numbers. This is reflected in the current job titles: Chief People & Culture, Employee Experience Manager, Chief Happiness Officer, People Operations Manager, Chief Heart Officer, etc. What is the future of the work you do?. Don’t be embarrassed with your current or past jobs. Many years ago, I’ve worked as a: - data entry personnel - customer service representative - food delivery driver - plastic factory operator - mail and parcel sorter - office cleaner - hotel and toilet cleaner - clinical experiment participant - tourist guide - personal shopper - pet taxi driver - mobile phone technician - computer repair technician These experience and skills you gain from your work are priceless. Because no one can take these away from you. Some people will look down on you. Ignore you. Or even disrespect you. That’s OK. They don’t pay your bills. As you move forward in your life, these experiences will shape you. It raises your self-awareness. You’ll be better, stronger, and wiser. Appreciate the opportunities. Be humble. In todays market, work is work… Of course work is always work… but what I mean specifically, is that any work, is good work… The #talentacquisition market has struggled for a long time now and there are still a huge number of recruiting professionals looking for work… That work will come… and the market will inevitably recover… In the meantime… if you are working as a delivery driver, night watchman or as a labourer… there is no shame in that!
