Ready for Autumn? 🍃 🌪 In the autumn, many pilots take advantage of every good day for VFR flights on their home base airfield. 🛩 The use of their aircraft might be less than during the summer, due to the decreasing day-light period. Sometimes they are relocating their aircraft to another airfield with more favorable weather. 🌞 A season change is always a good time to check your Aviation Insurance. ❗ More than often we get last-minute requests for the following amendments: ✴ Adding another pilot to the insurance policy (temporary), to conduct a ferry-flight or for a Flight Instructor making a check or training flight with the aircraft owner. ✴ Adding a new pilot (permanently) on the policy to fly the aircraft. ✴ Renting out your aircraft to other pilots: Make sure your Insurance policy is equipped for rental purposes, the pilots meet the minimum flight requirements and they possess the right licenses. ✴ Renting out your aircraft to a flight school or third party. Make sure your Insurance policy is equipped for rental purposes, the other party should be added on both policy as well as on the Insurance certificate as co-insured. Also the same rules should apply for the pilots requirements. ✴ Region cover: Is the region on your Insurance still ok? When flying cross-country (abroad) make sure this country is included/accepted on your Insurance policy as well as the countries you have to pass to fly to that final destination. Also make sure you have the right liability limit when flying on a foreign airfield for a longer period of time. All these requests take some time to get organized and approved by the Insurers and might increase your premium. From pilots we need Names, Birthdays as well as their complete flight history (Licences, Total Time, Ratings, Claims last 5 years) The more complete this information is delivered to us, the faster we can arrange it for you! 📄 Have a great "flying" Autumn! 😊 #insurance #changestopolicy #pilotinformation #changes #amendments #liability #hull #aviation #womeninaviation

Do you need to get a check ride on a new aircraft? As an aviation insurance broker, I often get questions about check rides and insurance requirements for general aviation pilots in Canada. To help clarify: Each aviation insurance company, such as Allianz Global or Global Aerospace, has its own standards when it comes to check rides. For instance: Allianz Global may require specific check ride forms to be completed by a check pilot or instructor. Global Aerospace might only need a letter of proficiency from the instructor. Others may be satisfied with a logbook entry signed by the instructor. The key takeaway? These are not typically formal Transport Canada check rides, which are specific to operations requiring an Air Operating Certificate (e.g., 702 or 703). Instead, they simply need to meet the standards set by the flight school or instructor conducting the ride. If the insurer has a specific form or guideline, it’s important to follow those instructions to ensure compliance. This variability emphasizes the importance of understanding the unique requirements of each insurer. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about navigating aviation insurance! #aviation #aviationinsurance #generaviation #checkrides

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞? 💰✈️ The premium is the cost you pay for your aviation insurance policy. Standard practice for premium payment includes the use of 𝐀𝐕𝐍5 / 𝐀𝐕𝐍6, with payments typically made in 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. However, other payment options may also apply, such as paying the entire premium in one payment, as well as the assessment of deposit and minimum premiums. Understanding how premiums are calculated can help you make informed decisions about your insurance coverage. Here are a few factors that influence the premium amount: - 𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞: The number of coverage types and their limits directly affects the premium amount. This can include Hull coverage, Hull War, Liability, Crew PA, and many others. - 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞: Different aircraft types carry different risk levels. - 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞: Higher aircraft AV typically result in higher premiums. - 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬: Premiums may depend on the geographical area in which the aircraft operates and the specific flight routes. - 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: More experienced pilots may qualify for lower premiums. - 𝐔𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞: The premium will also vary depending on the purpose for which the aircraft is used, whether for commercial passenger operations, cargo operations, or for training flights in a flight school. 💡 𝘛𝘪𝘱: 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘳. Factors Influencing Aviation Insurance Premiums ✈ Aviation insurance premiums can vary widely depending on several key factors. Here are the most important ones to consider: 1. Aircraft Type & Age Newer, safer aircraft typically attract lower premiums, while older models or high-value aircraft incur higher rates due to greater risk and repair costs. 2. Flight Hours & Usage Aircraft used for commercial operations (e.g., charter services, cargo, or air ambulances) are deemed higher risk than those used privately or recreationally. More flight hours increase the premium due to higher exposure to risk. 3. Pilot Experience Insurers evaluate a pilot’s experience, training, and safety record. Experienced pilots with clean records can help lower premiums, while less experienced or higher-risk pilots raise rates. 4. Claims History A history of accidents or claims leads to higher premiums. Operators with a strong safety culture and low claim frequency typically see lower rates. 5. Geographical Location Flying in high-risk areas (e.g., regions with political instability or challenging weather) increases risk and, therefore, premiums. Insurers assess both the operational environment and airspace congestion. 6. Coverage Type & Limits Higher coverage limits or more comprehensive policies (covering third-party liability, passenger injury, etc.) increase premiums. Basic coverage is more affordable but offers less protection. 7. Maintenance Aircraft with a strong maintenance history and adherence to safety standards pose less risk, leading to lower premiums. 8. Market Conditions Broader market factors, such as industry claims, economic trends, and regulatory changes, can affect premium rates. Understanding these factors helps operators manage risks and optimize their insurance costs. By maintaining a good safety record, investing in newer technology, and keeping operational risks in check, aviation professionals can minimize their insurance expenses #aviationinsurance #aviation #operators

Educating team Flight Deck Insurance and Flight Deck Consultancy At Flight Deck we want to make sure we can understand and assist our clients in the best way. To be able to catch up with all new developments in the Insurance sector, AND to stay up-to-speed with all changes in Rules & Regulations in Aviation, our team needs to study and keep increasing knowledge on a daily basis. In the Netherlands, an Insurance broker is not allowed (not even on the phone) to work with clients without the required Insurance certificates. Our entire team succesfully possesses the compulsary PE exams by the Ministerie van Financiën. In additition, also compulsary, we have a company membership of PA (Permanent Actueel) via Lindenhaeghe where we get montlhy digital updates , with a concluding quiz and multiple on-line webinars on Insurance topics. At the end of the year each teammember has to pass the PA exam of that year for General, Private and Business Claims Insurance. Events, conferences as well as regular updates by EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency and local CAAś like the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat in the Netherlands are an excellent way to keep informed about recent changes in the Drone and General Aviation sector. Training on Aviation Insurance in the house of Insurance companies like AXIS (AXIS Capital) regurlarly does is another great way to learn more about the wording and clauses of these specialistic policies. In meetings the team discusses special cases with eachother and we have an ongoing contact about current clients both new and existing. Usually studying takes place at home after work-hours or at a training organization venue. #insurance #knowledge #broker #aviation #liabilty #team #quality #aviationsafety #brokerage #hull #insurancetraining

Can You Keep Flying After an Aircraft Accident? Many pilots ask me, "If I have an aircraft accident, will I still be able to get insurance and keep flying?" One pilot even called me, sharing that someone told him he wouldn’t be able to keep flying after his accident because he won't be able to get insurance. This misconception inspired me to make this post, because the reality is that, in most cases, you can still get insurance and continue flying. So the good news is that in most cases, the answer is yes you can still get insurance — but it depends on a few key factors: Claim Details: How large was the payout? Was it due to a mechanical issue or pilot error? Pilot Actions: If it was pilot error, have you addressed the root cause? This might involve additional training or even a shift in attitude to ensure safer flying practices. Insurance providers want to see proactive steps toward improvement and accountability. Whether it's completing additional training or demonstrating your commitment to safety, these actions can help rebuild trust and confidence. Accidents happen, but they don’t have to define your aviation journey. Stay humble, stay teachable, and keep flying smart. Have questions about navigating aircraft insurance after an accident? Let’s connect—I’d be happy to help! #Aviation #PilotLife #AircraftInsurance #FlyingSmart #SafetyFirst #AviationCommunity

The Unwritten CODE Of How Aviation Insurance Companies Influence Pilot Hiring - PART I When aviation companies hire professional pilots to fly their aircraft, the process is often shaped by more than just a pilot's skills or certifications. Aviation insurance companies impose a subtle yet powerful "unwritten code" that dictates who can be hired, how pilots are vetted, and even the terms of employment. This behind-the-scenes influence plays a major role in shaping the landscape of pilot hiring today. Here’s how this code impacts professional pilots: Setting the Bar High That Determine The Minimum Flight Hours and Experience Insurance companies impose strict minimum requirements for pilots, even though these standards aren’t always explicitly stated in company job descriptions. They commonly require pilots to have a specific number of flight hours, often in excess of the legal minimum set by the FAA or EASA. For example, an insurance company may demand at least 3,000 total flight hours and 500 hours in a specific aircraft type to qualify for coverage. Companies are often forced to limit their pool of candidates to pilots who meet or exceed these requirements. As a result, less-experienced pilots may find it harder to break into the industry, despite holding the necessary certifications. Pilot Type Ratings Are The Unspoken Essential While type ratings are legally required to fly specific aircraft, insurance companies take it a step further by often mandating type ratings for a particular model or series before a pilot can even be considered for hire. This is not just a regulatory compliance issue—it’s a risk mitigation strategy that insurers enforce quietly but firmly. It's frustrating, but a company may pass over highly skilled pilots who lack a type rating for the specific aircraft in their fleet. This “unwritten” requirement means pilots must often invest in obtaining multiple type ratings to be competitive for high-level positions, even if they’re not required by law.
