I recommend watching 'How to Win' by Daniel Gross to everyone. 👀
Good sleep and exercise are critical for decision-making.
Since technology is now accessible to everyone, making good decisions is more important than ever.
I come from the aviation industry. ✈️
In the cockpit, it cannot be emphasized enough how important decision-making is for the pilot.
To make good decisions, pilots need good sleep. There are even regulations for this.
I encourage everyone to create their own rules for getting enough sleep and exercise.

✈️ Leadership in the flight deck transcends navigating through clear skies; it's about understanding the storms within.
🌪️ Every pilot faces turbulence, not just in the air but within themselves.
Learning about our own tendencies, how we perceive and react to stress, conflict, tension, and challenging situations, forms the core of true command.
🧭 It's in mastering our internal reactions that we find the strength to lead with calm, precision, and resilience, turning potential chaos into a course for success.
🛫 As we chart our paths through the skies and within our hearts, we become not just pilots, but captains of our inner selves.
💖 What's the one word that describes how you navigate your internal storms?

In the early 20th century, Ernest Shackleton led an expedition to Antarctica that became one of the greatest survival stories in history. When his ship, the Endurance, was trapped and eventually crushed by ice, Shackleton and his crew were stranded in one of the most inhospitable places on earth.
Despite the dire circumstances, Shackleton exhibited extraordinary leadership qualities that ensured the survival of his entire crew. He maintained morale, made strategic decisions, and led by example, showing resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to his team's well-being.
In today's challenging economic climate, where companies face unprecedented slowdowns and closures, Shackleton's leadership provides timeless lessons. Here are a few key takeaways:
Resilience: Shackleton never gave up, even when the situation seemed hopeless. Leaders today must remain resilient, encouraging their teams to stay focused and motivated.
Adaptability: Shackleton constantly adapted his plans as circumstances changed. In our fast-paced world, flexibility and the ability to pivot quickly are essential for overcoming obstacles.
Empathy and Communication: Shackleton understood the importance of clear communication and empathy. He kept his crew informed and addressed their fears, fostering a sense of unity and trust. Modern leaders should prioritize transparent communication and show genuine concern for their teams' well-being.
Leading by Example: Shackleton led from the front, sharing the hardships and demonstrating the behaviors he expected from his crew. Today's leaders must also lead by example, inspiring confidence and dedication through their actions.
As we navigate through these turbulent times, let's draw inspiration from Shackleton's extraordinary leadership. By embodying resilience, adaptability, empathy, and leading by example, we can guide our teams through adversity and emerge stronger on the other side.

As I stood on the hill just above the Gustaf III Airport in St Barths with my camera ready and back to the approaching plane, I found myself in awe of the precision required to navigate this challenging approach. The short runway, flanked by hills and the ocean, leaves little room for error – demanding the utmost skill and mastery from every pilot who lands here. ✈️💡
Just as the constraints of this unique airport compel pilots to perform at their best, the limitations and challenges we all face as leaders serve as powerful catalysts for growth and mastery. 🌿🚀
In the face of constraints, we are forced to think creatively, optimize our resources, and push the boundaries of what we believe is possible. It is in these moments of pressure that we discover our full potential, honing our skills and elevating our performance. 🧠💪
It is not just about technical skill or knowledge; it's also about mindset. Embracing constraints as opportunities, rather than obstacles, requires a fundamental shift in perspective. It means approaching challenges with curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and grow. 🌈📚
As leaders, we have the imperative to cultivate this mindset in ourselves and our teams. By reframing limitations as chances to innovate, experiment, and push beyond our comfort zones, we create a culture of continuous improvement and boundless potential. 🌟🔝

Han Solo doesn't believe much in the power of the force, which probably means he won't follow your OKR process or show up to your Weekly Business Reviews.
In honor of May the 4th (Star Wars Day), I once wrote an article about what it would be like to work for Han Solo in your corporate role.

I was once part of a legacy team that faced a significant challenge dealing with changes triggered by a new manager who joined our department. Despite our long established success, he had tweaks to most of our processes that were unfairly unwelcomed by those of us working in the department. The new manager, however, shared a powerful metaphor using a photo of a winglet reaching into the sky, emphasizing the endless possibilities of growth. He reminded us that change and growth benefit everyone, including our customers, and that respecting the legacy while evolving is key.
Now, that I have sat as the new manager working with an experienced team, I understand the importance of representing change while valuing established legacies. I strive to implement the valuable lesson of building upon the past without dwelling in it. Every time I see our winglets, I recall that impactful meeting and the profound lesson learned.
Legacies are for building on, not living in.

The Thunderbirds' precise control and slow flying demonstrate the importance of deliberate decision-making and calculated risk-taking in management. Like the pilots, leaders must balance speed and control, knowing when to accelerate and when to slow down. This show reminds us that precision, focus, and teamwork are essential for success. In management, we must also prioritize clarity, communication, and trust to navigate complex situations and achieve our goals."
This lesson highlights the value of balance, precision, focus, teamwork, clarity, communication, and trust in management, drawing parallels from the Thunderbirds' flying techniques.

I've only ever had two engine-failures in real life.
Recently flying to Brisbane, I heard a familiar voice over the PA -my former flying instructor, Oliver, who'd become a cherished mentor and friend.
The processes and mindset he instilled extend far beyond the cockpit. Oliver taught me that integrity, though sometimes unpopular, remains non-negotiable.
Remarkably, Oliver was my first officer during one of those engine failures approaching Darwin. We couldn't have scripted it better - perfect weather, wide runway, short final, and the best possible support beside me.
The second occurred whilst instructing, watching the situation unfold in the circuit. Neither incident proved dramatic because we'd rehearsed these scenarios hundreds of times. The decision was straightforward: maintain course, check speed, verify slope, continue approach.
This exemplifies antifragility - deliberately building muscle memory for failure. Those countless hours of seemingly repetitive, perhaps tedious practice created a foundation where critical situations become manageable.
I believe excellence isn't built in moments of crisis - it's forged in the daily commitment to doing things right, even when no one's watching.
