Governments worldwide have issued urgent travel warnings following Iran's missile attack on Israel, advising against non-essential travel to affected regions. The UK Foreign Office issued advisories covering more than a dozen countries in the southern Mediterranean and the Middle East, including popular holiday destinations like Dubai, Morocco, and Egypt. Similarly, the US, Canada, and Australia issued advisories cautioning travelers about the risks of violence and rocket attacks in Israel and neighboring areas. In response to escalating tensions, major airlines like Qantas, Emirates, Etihad Airways, and British Airways have rerouted flights to avoid airspace over the Middle East. Qantas announced changes to its flight paths between Australia and Europe, avoiding airspace over the Persian Gulf and Iraq. Violence in Haiti is dangerously affecting U.S. Aviation ⚠ . 3 different U.S. planes have been shot at servicing the the Port-au-Prince airport. First a Spirit plane yesterday where a cabin crew member was injured 🏥 . Then a JetBlue plane earlier today and an American Airlines plane this afternoon. Flights to Port-au-Prince have been suspended by JetBlue for the next 4 days. American Airlines has immediately suspended all flights to and from Haiti. It wouldn't shock me if all flights to Haiti from the U.S. completely stop for at least the next few days/ weeks. Governments of The Bahamas and Guyana took an important step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations with the signing of an open skies Air Services Agreement. Signing on behalf of The Bahamas was Isaac Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation. His Guyanese counterpart, Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill, also affixed his signature to the document. Presently, there are no direct flights between Guyana and The Bahamas. However, this agreement puts in place the legal framework that opens market access for airlines to operate and enhance competitive air transport services, trade, and economic growth between the two countries. Consistent with the Guyana government’s model of open skies agreements, the document facilitates acceptance of the Principal Place of Business as a means of designating an airline in contrast to the traditional restrictive requirement of substantial ownership and effective control by nationals of either country. This means that the airlines could benefit from foreign share capital and investment once they establish their main economic and operating base in either The Bahamas or Guyana. The Principal Place of Business condition for airline designation is now a common inclusion in Air Services Agreements and creates a very advantageous position for small States with limited capital or financial resources. The agreement also complements the more than 50 Air Services Agreements Guyana has established with other States to develop air connectivity among States. PIA Gears Up to Resume UK Flights by March Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to restart UK operations soon, with hopes for resumption as early as March, following the European Union's clearance. DG Civil Aviation Nadir Shafi Dar announced that a UK Department for Transport delegation will visit Pakistan in January, with initial online meetings in December. Previously, PIA operated 21 weekly UK flights, including London, Manchester, and Birmingham. The resumption aligns with improved aviation standards in Pakistan and the EU’s lifted ban. The U.S.-Nigeria Air Transport Agreement, which has been provisionally applied since 2000, entered into force on May 13, 2024. This bilateral agreement establishes a modern civil aviation relationship with Nigeria consistent with U.S. Open Skies international aviation policy and with commitments to high standards of aviation safety and security. The agreement includes provisions that allow for unrestricted capacity and frequency of services, open route rights, a liberal charter regime, and open code-sharing opportunities. https://lnkd.in/drD7wpN6
