And suddenly, Shell entered the manure business. The oil giant spent nearly €2 billion on a Danish fertiliser company. But why on earth is Shell dealing with poop? Turns out it’s a clever way to make its liquefied fossil gas look greener than it actually is – thanks to EU rules. https://lnkd.in/e3CeMxDX

Shell Germany has opened the country's largest bio-LNG plant at the Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland. Up to 100,000 tonnes of the low-carbon fuel will be produced here each year. This is enough to power 4,000 to 5,000 LNG trucks a year, saving up to one million tonnes of CO2. This is another important step towards decarbonising heavy transport and making it more sustainable. Road transport is responsible for around 9% of global CO2 emissions. Learn more: 👇 #BioLNG #ValveIndustry #SustainableTransport #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition

Best invest in Building Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry, You talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising innovative sustainable and clean energy method. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. “Shell sold to Canada’s largest oil sands companies millions of carbon credits tied to CO₂ removal that never took place, raising new doubts about a technology seen as crucial to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.” As a result of the scheme, Shell was able to register 5.7mn credits that had no equivalent CO₂ reductions, selling these to top oil sands producers and some of its own subsidiaries. Credits are typically equivalent to one tonne of CO₂.

It's no secret that oil companies have been actively hindering the green transition for decades. In fact, since the 60s and 70s, government support for green technologies, such as heat pumps and electric cars, has been subverted by oil giants and their lobbying groups. It's absurd to think that these same companies are now positioning themselves as leaders in the green movement, when they accounted for just 1% of the global investments into clean energy. At best they would be considered a minor player. For exams see my post from last year (https://lnkd.in/eCZNVjTe) where I talked about a conversation I had with the MD of a local Shell refinery where he commented that because his 40 or so permanently used, permanently on site diesel generators used to support production could technically be removed they were temporary generators and thus scope 3 emissions, which he didn't need to report on and so he wasn't going to do anything. This was at Shell Game Changer event (supposedly for supporting clean energy startups). Hypocrisy much. I should say that from what I can find Shell is probably better than many other oil companies in that they do invest. But at only 11% of their 2023 investments (down from 14% in 2022), it is hardly ground braking. https://lnkd.in/edaBCRjC
