Social learning for personal development... Social learning is when you acquire valuable skills or useful training materials, find that they work well and then share them with others so they can benefit from your discovery. For employers, this makes the task of providing learning easier. A social learning environment is a space, usually, a digital one, where you can upvote, comment on or recommend training or learning opportunities within a community or peer group, like with LinkedIn or Facebook. The social element can help drive employee motivation. Social learning also has benefits around reward and recognition. Socially broadcasting things like rewarding an employee for excellent work can motivate others to engage with development opportunities and encourage employee growth. We all want the same thing, right? Healthy, high-performing organisations. But designing development interventions that suit everyone can be tricky. 💡 We’ve got as many as 5 generations in the workforce. 💡 There are numerous different learning styles - and most of them aren't on a convenient model. 💡 Our workplaces are more diverse than ever, and interventions need to be accessible and meaningful. 💡 We all have different preferences and aspirations. Here are some things that we have found work well: 💡 Create experiences that allow people to create sense and meaning for themselves and their own unique context. This will lead to greater ownership and accountability. 💡 Use a blended approach. Some people will vibe more with some elements than others and that’s ok. 💡 Use social learning to break down barriers. We’ve seen great working relationships form from meaningful conversations between the most unlikely of candidates. LinkedIn’s 2024 Workplace Learning Report – the top 5 points that stood out to me: 💠 53% of Gen Z believe learning is important for career progression (vs. 37% for those born after 1996) 💠 In the list of top L&D priorities, the objective of “helping employees develop their careers” jumped from 9th to 4th place – in one year. 💠 Companies with strong learning cultures see a +57% increase in retention, +23% higher internal mobility, and +7% higher promotions to management. Those numbers are +27%, +15%, and +8%, respectively, for moderate learning cultures. 💠 70% of people say learning improves their sense of connection with their company while 80% say it adds purpose to their work. 💠 The top L&D skills in terms of YoY growth for the past two years: Interpersonal (+73%), Presentation (+64%), Problem Solving (+57%), People Management (+57%). 📑 This report surveyed 1,636 L&D and HR professionals with L&D responsibilities who have some influence on budget decisions, and 1,063 learners across 29 countries in North America, South America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. https://lnkd.in/eWmH26a2
