This Veterans Day, we’re honoring Ford and Ford Philanthropy’s century-long partnership with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), which began in 1922 when Henry Ford organized a cross-country caravan of Model T Fords to bring veterans to the DAV national convention. In August, we celebrated this legacy by providing a grant to support transportation for veterans to medical appointments. Over the years, Ford has donated hundreds of vehicles to DAV, helping provide nearly 20 million rides for veterans in need. We’ve also funded sports rehabilitation and scholarships for young volunteers who support veterans. Today and every day, we’re grateful for our nation’s veterans.

FIVE WAYS TO COMMEMORATE MEMORIAL DAY Memorial Day is viewed as the official beginning of summer, marked by picnics and BBQs with friends and family. But this holiday was established to set aside time to honor and remember those who died while serving in the U.S. military. In addition to picnics and BBQs, here are five great ways to commemorate Memorial Day this weekend. 1. Attend A Ceremony. Many towns have parades and ceremonies on Memorial Day. Some even conclude with a memorial service. Make time to take advantage of what your town offers. 2. Decorate with Flags. For many years, it has been a tradition to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flags on Memorial Day or fly our flag at half-staff from dawn until noon local time. If you have a flag pole, consider joining the tradition this year. 3. Thank A Veteran. While Memorial Day is a time for remembering and honoring our fallen soldiers, it’s also a wonderful time to thank soldiers past and present who are in our midst today. Thank them for their service. If you do not know a veteran or want to do more, write a letter to a veteran or soldier! Check out https://buff.ly/2DhxLZD for more information about writing letters or sending care packages to soldiers currently deployed. 4. Participate in our National Moment of Remembrance. To ensure Memorial Day is the sacred and noble holiday it is intended to be, the National Moment of Remembrance asks us to pause for 1 minute in national unity wherever we are at 3 PM local time on Memorial Day. 5. Buy A Poppy. During the days leading up to Memorial Day, members of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) accept donations for poppies. The poppy’s significance to Memorial Day derives from John McCrae’s poem, “In Flanders Fields.” Disabled and needy veterans in VA hospitals have been assembling Buddy Poppies since 1924. When you purchase a poppy, your donation assists in maintaining state and national rehabilitation and service programs for veterans. #EllenMorano #MemorialDay2024 #Honor #Remembrance #Veterans #FallenSoldiers #ThankYou

As we gather with friends and family this Memorial Day, it's a time for reflection and gratitude. This day holds profound significance as we honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, and for that we are forever grateful. Looking for ways to give back? Here are just a few options: 🇺🇸Volunteer: Offer your time to local veterans' organizations. 🇺🇸Donate: Consider making a contribution to nonprofits that provide vital resources and support to veterans and their families. 🇺🇸Advocate: Raise awareness about the challenges veterans face and advocate for policies that improve their quality of life. 🇺🇸Educate: Teach the younger generation about the significance of Memorial Day and the sacrifices made by our military personnel.

🎖️ Happy National Airborne Day! 🎖️ Today, we honor the brave paratroopers who exemplify the very essence of leadership, teamwork, and resilience. As a retired U.S. Army warrant officer and airborne paratrooper, I’ve carried the lessons learned from the skies into every step of my civilian career: • Leadership Under Pressure: Making critical decisions in high-stress environments is second nature—whether in the boardroom or on the battlefield. • Teamwork and Trust: Just like in the drop zone, success in business hinges on trust and collaboration. • Adaptability: The ability to adjust quickly to changing situations has been key in navigating the ever-evolving corporate landscape. • Discipline and Commitment: The discipline honed during rigorous training translates into consistent execution and a relentless pursuit of excellence. • Risk Management: Assessing and managing risk with precision is something I do every day, thanks to my airborne background. • Resilience: Mental toughness and the ability to bounce back from setbacks are crucial both in service and in business. On this special day, I salute all the paratroopers out there—past, present, and future. Your courage and dedication continue to inspire! #NationalAirborneDay #Leadership #Teamwork #Resilience #Veteran #ArmyStrong #CorporateLife #WarrantOfficer
It's #NationalAirborneDay! 🪂️ Make sure to thank a paratrooper today! We are grateful for each service member defending our country. 📸: DVIDS

Well done Fighting With Pride - LGBT+ Military Charity and all involved! My personal thoughts and opinions on this are that we have done these individuals and the community, in the past, multiple disservices. Firstly in their persecution and criminalisation. Secondly, by placing many on "the register" we prevented or restricted people - who had already done so much for the nation - from doing more again, at the detriment of our collective interest. Be this this the prevention from adopting or in many other areas. It seems silly, does it not, with hindsight, that it was considered more in the national interest to pursue certain orientations more greatly than to police (importantly, genuine) sexual misconduct, where it occurred, with an even approach. Or to then hamper peoples ability to continue to give back to society, years after decriminalisation in wider society? #LGBTQ+ #veterans #military #nationalinterests #society #justice #nationalinterest #community #adoption #fostercare Centre for Military Justice, LGBT Foundation, Age UK, Age Scotland, British Medical Association, Stonewall, Royal British Legion, Havant Borough Council, Woody's Lodge, Help for Heroes, Walking With The Wounded, Combat Stress, Scotland's Bravest Manufacturing Company, Forward Assist Recruitment, VETERANS IN CRISIS, The VC Gallery, Adferiad, Gerry McGregor, Phoenix Arts Club
Today, in an incredible moment of solidarity 25 of the largest military charities, LGBT+ charities and older peoples charities in the UK sent an open letter to the Prime Minister calling for financial reparations payments to LGBT+ veterans on a scale that will restore the values of defence. We must not deny our LGBT+ veterans the comfort and security in older age that we wish for all veterans. We cannot change the past, but we can honour the Armed Forces Covenant. Happy Memorial Day: Today we remember and honor those who served in our military and those who were killed or are missing in action. Here are some ways you can honor those who serve or have served in the military: Say thank you A simple, heartfelt, and sincere thank you can show your appreciation for what veterans have faced and given up. You can also thank them for their sacrifices, valor, courage, strength, and dedication. Fly the flag Flying the flag outside your workplace can show appreciation for veterans, especially if they are employees or contractors. Many veterans see the flag as a symbol of their honorable service. Volunteer You can volunteer at an organization or event that supports wounded warriors, or find out about volunteer opportunities at a Veterans Affairs hospital. Volunteering can also be a good way to build rapport with colleagues. Donate Donating to veteran organizations can help them provide shelter, services, and more for veterans in need. Attend a veterans event You can attend a ceremony, parade, or other special event to honor veterans. Visit a war memorial or veterans' cemetery You can say a silent thank you or moment of silence at a war memorial, or visit a veterans' cemetery in your area. Create a care package You can put together a personalized care package for a veteran you know, or mail one to someone in need. Some ideas for what to include are candies, an American flag, socks with rubber grips, and toiletries. Write a veteran's story You can write down the story of a veteran you know, or write it for your school or local paper.

Well done to Priority One Armada who held a Live 300th Episode over on their social media channels as a fundraiser for ONE and our charitable aims. The main organiser is a veteran “As a former soldier myself who has suffered some hard times since leaving the service, it is really great to see an organization that truly helps those veterans who have also fallen on hard times. We want to support this cause, because we believe in a better future for everyone across the globe and as Star Trek fans, we believe this future is possible.” They are only €91 off their target of €1701 (do you recognise why that’s the target?) Donate here: https://lnkd.in/e-Ks3JEy Well done to Priority One Armada and to all the donors involved we really appreciate your support. ONE’s primary objective is to support the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless and other veterans in need of such domestic accommodation in its Veterans Homes and the provision of other advice and support to veterans, in particular Mental Health advice, through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans Support Centres. On this Veterans Day, we pause to recognize the courage, dedication, and sacrifices made by the men and women who have served our nation in uniform. From past conflicts to present-day service, veterans have embodied the highest ideals of duty, honor, and country. Today, we honor their commitment and express our deepest gratitude for their service. Ways to Honor Veterans: 1.) Attend a Local Veterans Day Event: Many communities host parades, ceremonies, and events. Your presence shows support and respect for veterans and their families. 2.) Share Stories: Take a moment to listen to a veteran’s story or share one on social media. Their experiences are a powerful reminder of the sacrifices they’ve made for our freedoms. 3.)Volunteer or Donate: Consider volunteering at or donating to a veterans’ organization. Your time and contributions can make a meaningful impact on veterans’ lives. Today, and every day, let’s honor those who have served by showing appreciation and ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
