#IFTEX2024 Sustainability Conference, Panelist Christine Chesaro discussed Kenya's Climate Change (Amendment) Act, 2023, and the opportunities for the floriculture industry.
Passed by both Houses of Parliament and signed into law by President William Ruto just before the Africa Climate Summit 2023, the Act regulates carbon projects and trading in Kenya, effective from September 15, 2023.
Key points for carbon credit projects and trading;
-Obtain an environmental impact assessment for all carbon credit projects.
-Enter into community development agreements for all land-based projects.
-Register with the National Carbon Registry.
Climate Change (Amendment) Act, 2023 is designed to develop, manage, implement, and regulate mechanisms that enhance climate change resilience and promote low carbon development, ensuring sustainable growth for Kenya.

Dear FSC Coordinator; I hope this message finds you well. I'm thrilled about the positive changes happening in our region, especially with the Amhara Agricultural Research Institute's Forestry Research Directorate, which plays a vital role in forest management and restoration. Our partnership with regional research centers is strengthening our fight against deforestation and climate change. By incorporating the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) program, we can enhance ecological balance and provide support to local communities. I am optimistic about these initiatives and their potential impact on our forests. Together, we can strive for a sustainable future for our natural resources. Thank you for the update; I look forward to seeing our progress.
