Through a partnership with Lindum, a metal container manufacturer has reviewed and optimised its packaging process and this has resulted in a huge accomplishment. The company has been able to reach a 49% cost saving of stretch film packaging, whilst also creating a reduction of more than eight tonnes of plastic usage on an annual basis. If you're in Europe, you may notice that plastic bottle caps are now permanently attached to the bottles. This has recyclability benefits, but can also be a bit annoying. Without regulation, there is no way most companies would make this change. I think it illustrates that almost all efforts to improve packaging sustainability come with trade offs.
