Recently, we had the chance to talk with a foster mom we will call ‘Sharon’. Four years ago, she received a call from The Department of Child Safety urging her to open her home to her infant grandson, ‘Baby B’. Over the last four years, TFA has been a trusted friend and partner to Sharon and her family. As they have picked up essentials (diapers, formula, cloths, etc.) at TFA’s Phoenix Resource Center, we have watched Baby B grow. He’s now filled with love, joy, and excitement for the world around him. That is why TFA is here - to help foster families say, “Yes” when they get that call. To support them to be a place of safety and love for their foster kiddos. It's not too late to make your gift to The Foster Alliance before the year is over. Will you donate now to make more stories of hope a reality for families like Sharon's? Link to donate: https://lnkd.in/gsYwZdEd

I am very grateful and proud of the Women's Initiative from TLC Engineering Solutions for supporting the Bag of Hope Project this month. The Bag of Hope initiative aims to provide the resources necessary for Foster Children aging out of the foster care system. Here are some studies that will help understand why these Foster Children need the help of the community. Some studies have estimated the cost of incarcerating youth who have been involved in the foster care system. The numbers are staggering when it comes to kids aging out of the care system without resources, often leading to homelessness or incarceration. For example, a 2016 report by the Juvenile Law Center estimated that in Pennsylvania, the cost of incarcerating a young adult who had been involved in the foster care system was approximately $324 per day, or $118,260 per year. The report noted that this cost is significantly higher than the cost of providing community-based alternatives to incarceration. According to a report by the Utah Juvenile Justice Working Group, the average daily cost of incarcerating youth in a Utah detention center was approximately $289 daily in 2018. This figure includes the cost of direct care and custody, education, and healthcare services. The state spends more than $8,000 per month on each youth incarcerated. What if we could avoid this situation in our community? This is the mission of the Hope Foundation for Foster Youth Housing. We want to be the support these young people need and provide them with the tools to become self-reliant, both physically and emotionally, as well as financially. Please, friends, if you can share and support our cause, you will make a difference in this nation. I am counting on you. As a former foster child myself, I know the challenges these young people face every day of their lives since being placed in the system and aging out. They need us. #BagOfHope #FosterCareSupport #YouthEmpowerment #CommunitySupport #HopeFoundation #AgingOut #EndYouthIncarceration #SupportOurYouth #ChangeLives #MakeADifference

In a world of empty promises, actions speak louder than words. Bishop Martin's call to action for Christians to not just say the right things but do the right things for kids in the Foster Care system is a rallying cry we can't afford to ignore. We can't just talk about helping; we need to actively change the lives of hurting children. Foster children often face uncertain futures, but we can make a significant impact by providing something as simple—and as vital—as a suitcase. 🌟 How can you help? - **Donate a suitcase bundle**: Your contribution supports the Wait No More Foster Care and Adoption program. - **Offer comfort**: Every suitcase bundle provides a child with a sense of security and ownership. And there’s more: with your donation, you’ll receive the inspiring book, Small Town, Big Miracle. It's a small gesture for us, but a giant leap for these kids. It's time we match our big words with bigger actions. This is about more than pride or charity; it’s about giving children in the foster care system a ray of hope. ✊ Let's rise to the challenge. It doesn’t take much to do something monumental and life-changing. We - like you - are so heavy-hearted for those who suffer in North Carolina and Florida and endure the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene and Milton. Our team knew we wanted to help somehow; But, we also knew that we needed to pause while relief efforts began. We needed to be still and ensure that our involvement would be a mission fit. This week we made a connection in North Carolina, conducted necessary due diligence, and found a way forward there. We are partnering with an organization whose Executive Director was personally affected, losing just about everything. But still, with five children, all adopted from foster care, she and her team persevere to meet the urgent needs of her community, specifically families in foster care. The huge praise is that all 2,700 vulnerable children in the counties they cover have been accounted for and they are all safe. But, as the weather grows colder, and many of them are left with nothing (or very little), they need help. And we are choosing to back them up. Yesterday, we sent a sizable donation to be used for food gift cards (grocery stores & restaurants), clothing, medical products, household items, diapers, wipes, and specialized formula that is not covered by WIC. Knowing that this funding will go very quickly, we are hoping that some of you will help us send $10,000 more. In addition to needing material items, these families are going to need counseling from therapists who already know the complexities of foster care trauma, that has now been compounded from the effects of a natural disaster. This is a very hard, and long, road. So, we ask - will you partner with us on this initiative and lighten their load? Let's help them act quickly to get the help they need! https://lnkd.in/ecRDq2Az . It takes a village, and we are so thankful for ours. Together, we make a remarkable impact on vulnerable children and the families caring for them. Friends, families, partners, and supporters— you mean so much to us and you make this work possible. Truly, we couldn’t do this without you. With #GivingTuesday approaching, we asked our champion donors why they choose to support families alongside us, and we consider it a gift to share some of their stories with you. As a foster parent, Angela’s story reminds us of how vital it is for kids and families to feel seen, heard, and cared for from day one. “While we also support larger non-profits, we prefer to donate closer to home with organizations that are change-makers in our own community. Foster the Family provides wrap-around care for children experiencing foster care and the families caring for them. For the child, the exit from their everyday lives is often without warning. Similarly, for the individual or families taking them in, little notice is given, often less than an hour! During an already bumpy transition, most children arrive without necessities like clothing, backpacks, or toiletries. And sure, these may seem like small things, but without feeling comfortable with the small things, it’s difficult to grasp the significance of, let alone focus on, the bigger things – even kids recognize the importance of basic needs and how it makes them feel. FTF has identified this speed bump and made it easier for families and kids to not worry about the small stuff in the early days, and instead focus on the bigger picture of safety, security, and care. This was our experience as a new foster family when we accepted our first child, just two weeks after our family’s approval. Other than the social worker who brought him to our home, FTF was the very first knock on our door delivering a lifesaving "parachute of goodies" for all of us in the home, and we are forever grateful! Our family is frequently asked about our journey and how one might help us or the foster community. If this is a question you’ve asked yourself, please consider donating to Foster the Family.” - Angela #BeTheVillage #FosterTheFamily

Foster children need your ongoing support Foster children often struggle with filling their ongoing needs, especially as they're growing. Like all kids, children in foster care need new shoes when their feet grow, new clothes when they wear them out, glasses, diapers, computers, school supplies, and nutritious food. So much of the time, these ongoing needs are a real challenge for foster parents or group homes to meet fully. You can help support the ongoing needs of a foster child through a monthly or yearly donation: $54 - Support a Foster Child For a Month $648 - Support a Foster Child For a Year You can change a foster child's life through your ongoing donations, helping provide essential goods and support for them. Each year, approximately 900 youth will age out of the Arizona foster care system. Without an effective safety net and support network to guide them through the next chapter of their lives, the odds are not in their favor: - 40% will become homeless within 18 months of leaving care - 67% won't graduate high school - 50% won't have gainful employment by age 24 Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation is the critical safety and support network these youth turn to. Your donations are critical in helping to change their story by providing critical employment, education, and career development services so that they can transition successfully to independence. On this AZ Gives Day, transform a young person's life by donating to AFFCF: azgives.org/affcf. #ArizonaGivesDay #AZGivesDay #AFFCF #azffcf #fostercare #childhoodactivities #KeystoSuccess #postsecondaryprograms #affcf40thanniversary #40yearsofimpact #youwinkidswin

Did you know, according to the American Psychological Association, 38% of people surveyed said their stress increases during the holiday season, which can lead to physical illness, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse. For children and teens in foster care, this is a deeply understood reality. For them, the holiday season can be extremely emotional and triggering. As mothers ourselves, who would do just about anything for our own children, who torture ourselves over creating all the perfect moments, memories, and magic for our kids, it's hard for us to imagine the fractured childhoods lived by children in foster care. That's why we so value and support Children's Harbor, Inc. As mothers, we understand the importance of providing the necessities AND the extras- the moments, the memories, the magic, the things that "make childhood happen". Thank you to Erik, Tiffani and the entire Children's Harbor team for giving us the privilege of supporting you in this loving mission of "making the holidays happen" for the children and teens living at the Children's Harbor campus. This holiday season, as you count your many blessings, please consider helping us show these children love, hope, and the magic of the holiday season with a donation to our fundraising campaign.
