IT'S OFFICIAL: General Motors (GM) has completely shutdown their driverless robotaxi unit: CRUISE. GM says it wants to rather focus on integrating SUPER CRUISE (its driver assistance technology) into its EVs. Completely shutting down Cruise is going to save GM $1 billion in annual losses. Cruise had faced stiff competition from the likes of Google's Waymo and Amazon's Zoox Read more about autonomous vehicles and the AV industry here: https://lnkd.in/d797xTha #gm #cruise #selfdrivingcars #avs #avnews

Researchers propose updating traffic signals for self-driving cars, adding a potential fourth signal—white—to accommodate autonomous vehicles (AVs). University of Michigan’s pilot program in Birmingham, Michigan, uses data from GM vehicles to optimize traffic flow without infrastructure changes. Another approach by North Carolina State University suggests a white light to indicate AV control, requiring 40%-50% AV adoption. Waymo cautions against premature AV-specific infrastructure investments. Traffic signals, unchanged since 1914, may evolve with AV technology. Pilot programs and ongoing research aim to create more efficient and safer traffic management systems for the future. #SelfDrivingCars #TrafficSignals #AutonomousVehicles
